Beast TT Dyno Run #1
Hey guys, it's been a while. I've been teaking this, adjusting that, fixing the trandicular transducer transfibulator, etc. Anyways, I finaly took it to the dyno so I could adjust the fuel curve and get O2's right throughout the load and rpm ranges. It's not earth shattering yet but it's good progress. I've still got some work to do on the ignition maps to get the turbos to spool quicker down low. With the standard 15% drivetrain considered it translates to 464hp and 501lbs of torque.

Bravo!!! I don't think I have seen pics of the engine installed. Can you refresh my memory?
|
|
That makes me all moist its so beautiful--nice job!
|
VIDEO! VIDEO! VIDEO! VIDEO!......please?
|
That torque curve makes me want to go out and rob a bank. ;)
|
Insane! Must be a blast to drive. Congrats!
What is your horsepower goal? You sound like you're disappointed with 465bhp. |
Thanks all. Adam, my current goal is 500 to the wheels but I'm not all that hung up on it. Torque is where its really at in my book. cheers.
|
300 ft-lbs of torque at only 3000 rpms. Haha, and guys say the 3.6 makes torque. :)
You're my idol, Hargett!!!! That is so sweet. :) Jürgen |
FANTASTIC ACHIEVEMENT Mark!
It must be a real blast to drive  I love your engine man! Absolute eye-candy :P |
Is this board designed solely to sow seeds of discontent in my life?
|
That is a beast. A gorgeous one at that.
|
Thanks again guys! BurninOil, you crack me up.
|
Mark - that's a beautiful looking torque curve!
|
Mark, that is as always sweet as can be.
I'd love to put something similar in an early narrow long hood with nothing but maybe a ducktail. The ultimate sleeper monster. Didn't you use Garrets T04's on that baby? |
Great numbers! I always thought the HP and Torque intersect at 5250 rpm on dyno charts. Am I wrong?
|
Nader, I've seen that before too. I think its a general thing and not universal. I think I do have a problem with the torque falling off so much, not sure why at the moment.

I feel very bummed out everytime I see pictures of that machine. Good lord, what an engine. Mark, how far away are you from Montana? |
Actually, torque & horsepower will always be equal at 5252 RPM by definition. HP = (RPM * TQ) / 5252. The scaling for the HP & TQ curves are different, as you can see by the numbers on the left of the chart. If they were shown at the same scale the curves would cross at 5252. Anyways, enough boring math! :)
Great job Mark. I'd love to see your car in person sometime. Wanna race? :D So where'd you get it dynoed? I've never tried a Mustang dyno yet, only DynoJet's so far. Cheers, |
the pic of the engine...it's...oh...so...beautiful!
then the dyno shows the car rightfully deserves its name. |
Wow...congrats in so many wayshttp://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat6.gif
|
Thanks Brian for pointing that out. There is a local guy that does dyno work and he has the access to the mustang dyno. He swears up and down about them compared to others. He said they are a little more conservative than others but who knows. Where are you located? I'd love to get a group going to go on rides and such. Most of the SoCal rides are a couple of hours away from me, I'm about 30 miles North of San Diego.

I think it' better to to say your torque curve isn't falling as much as peaking a lot in the middle. I have a friend with 3.6 an dual trick turbos that experimented with all kinds of cams. He noticed that wilder cams shifted torque curve upwards (= more HP). He's was running two GT30BB's and GT2 EVO cams. |
Mark,
Nice job and craftsmanship. I like your work. What are your EGT and do you find having EGT helpflull in tuning? |
Mark,
I'm in Oceanside. There are lots of good roads out east of the 15. We really should plan a little canyon run in the couple of weeks. The east side of Palomar Mtn or the 79 from Warner Springs to Julian are some personal favs lately...or Lilac and Couser Canyon if you like the super-duper twisty stuff. |
So if I fly out to California do I get a ride?
|
Mark,
When does the book come out?! That's one awesome powerplant! Congratulations! |
Mark,
what turbos are you running? how do you like the haltech system? Looks great |
Thanks everyone again!
Dean, I'm seeing egt's of 1500 under full boost, a little high for my liking. I think its due in part by the overlap of my 993ss cams. I think it's great to have it as atuning tool but not nearly as important as a wide band O2. Brian, we will have to hook up and go for some rides. I think there are a couple of other guys around too. I'm going to be gone for a week starting tomorrow so lets plan on something in a couple of weeks. Rarly, any time dude. Matt, HA! I'm just an apprentice and probably always will be learning so a book is way off. I am contimplating a cost effective turbo kit though ;) Phil, I am running k16/24 hybrids. They are ok but a little agressive for my displacement and cam setup. They come on very strong but a little week down low. My next step (after I enjoy it a little while) will be cganging to some Garrett GT's. cheers all. |
Just how much boost are you running there?
|
Mark
thats fantastic, do you do your own fab work? looks nice. |
sorry, was on a cruise for a couple of weeks...
I'm running 18lbs of boost. How much are you running? yes Rich I do my own fab work. Brian, you ready for a local ride? |
I used to keep down to about a bar of boost but on nice cold days I sometimes used to turn it up to around 1.2 bar which is almost 18 PSI.
|
18lbs is approx 1.22bar, right?
Do you use water or methanol injection or anything similar to supplement that kind of boost with 8.5:1 comp ratio? I know you've got a huge intercooler, but... wow! That's a lot of squeeze! |
Mark,
Any updates with the new GT turbos? I hope you let us know if you are still considering a low-cost turbo setup before I get too far into my really low-buck and even lower-skill TT setup! Knowing the way my custom projects usually turn out, I will probably end up with duct tape and cardboard trying to contain 5 psi of boost in the intake tract! Olivier |
Mark, Brian,
Let me know about any San Diego runs too - I'm in. That is if you guys don't mind a teener tagging along. -Steve '74 914 3.6 |
Will do Steve. You're more than welcome to tag along with that monster 914 of yours. Right now I'm thinking June 19th, 26th or 27th are possiblities for a little canyon run/get together.

Hey, I'm ready for a run! Yes, I now have my Gt's on and I like them a lot. I still have some tuning to do as I'm sure I'm hitting places in the maps that it's never seen befor but its still running pretty good. I'm sure we could get a fairly sized group together, we just need to find a date that everyone is available. Sunday mornings work best for me. I haven't pursued the turbo kit concept any further. I've been spending all my free time finishing the CNC conversion on my mill so I can make some parts I want to sell.
