Which Car For $30K
If you had $30K to spend and you wanted a very nice driving 911, which one would you look for? Not the most powerful, but the best all around car for the money.
Thanks for your comments,

I would probably do a lot of searching and find a nice 993 for that price range. Although, I did see a nice 91 turbo in the classifieds section for $30k...

There's a black '86 or 87 Turbo in Northern Virginia that's supposed to be mint. I'll bet you could get it for close to that. That's the one I'd go for at that price.
Turbo's are expensive to maintain. But they're really something when running well. |

I go for the 85-89 turbo,
Or, the 88-89 carrera in very clean condition Or, even the Factory turbo look in 88-89 years. I would not think you can get a good clean 993 for 30K that is worryfree.

I also doubt 30k will get you a good 993. But it would get you a low milage, mint '87-89. That's where I would go. Naturally.

I wouldn't touch a $30K 993 either.
That same budget will buy you a very nice 930 though.

$30K would easily put you into the (name a year) through 1993 model. A few more dinars and you would get your 993 (with choices out here).

For $30k Id buy 2 really nice longhoods
. Maybe a clean S and a straight and solid T for a hotrod project. $30k will get you a lot of car.

If it was me, I'd buy a real nice 87-89 Carrera or someone's 72-73 hotrod (rs clone).

This is one of those situations where you need to drive each model in your price range and make the decision for yourself. These cars all have different personalities, and you need to find the one that fits you. Otherwise, we'd all be driving the same car!

You may find a steal on a 993 for that price, but you need to keep a few $$ in reserve with these cars. I would never spend that much on a 3.2 Carrera and I wouldn't want to get nickled and dimed to death maintaining a turbo. Get a perfect 964 and do some mods, get a perfect 3.2 and save $10k-$13k or save a little longer and get a well-sorted '95 993.

A well maintained low mileage (50K miles or so) '89 Carrera Cab. You should even have a couple thousand dollars to fix/replace anything that comes up or to buy those things that "make it yours".

I would look for a nice 3.6 conversion in an sc or older for $20k-25k and then keep the extra money for stuff that either you want to change or the car needs.

A nice, clean, documented 93 or so 964 coupe would be my bet. Put some money away to save for mods....
A nice 88 or 89 Carrera coupe would be great also.. Chris |

Does anyone have the contact info on the 86 or 87 Turbo in Northern Virginia?

A sweet clean 964 and you'd have some left for anything you might want to do to it. Of course a sweet g50 cab would be nice too.
