Correct me if I'm wrong (79SC)

With an electronic ignition system does it hurt the points, or whever is in the distributor these days, to let it stay on while diagnosing a problem. Once, long ago, I remember that leaving the ignition on would burn up the points.

There are no points in the 1979 ignition. I don't know what (if any) other damage might result from leaving the switch in the run position. Anyone else?
