Hi Guys,

The good news: It's been a year and a half, but I finally got the motor back in my car and fired it up for the first time this afternoon! For those of you that haven't been following my progress on the rebuild forum, the car is a '72T, and the engine is a MFI T motor with 2.2E pistons and cams.

Anyway, I followed the procedures in Wayne's book for startup. I got oil pressure after about 30 seconds of cranking. The fuel pump was whirring, the CDI box humming and the engine was cranking. All good things, if you ask me. Then, out of nowhere, she fired! She burped and sputtered a few times, but after 3-4 tries, she started running the way a poorly set up MFI car does: whith lots of popping and backfiring.

The bad news: I have a prety significant fuel leak where the MFI fuel line mates with the fuel injector on the #4 cylinder. Pretty significant meaning that it was spraying fuel straight up in the air about 2 feet high! I removed the offending line and injector, cleaned and sanded the mating surfaces with 600 grit, and reinstalled them. No difference; I still had 'Ol Faithful shooting gasoline into the air. Needless to say, I decided that it probably wasn't a good idea to run it at 2000 RPM for twenty minutes, since I didn't particularly want to burn the car to the ground.

The need: If anyone out there has a MFI fuel line and injector for the #4 cylinder that would work on my '72T, I'd be most interested in purchasing it from you. I haven't checked with our host, but I'm hoping I can find these parts used, since I am a bit suspect of the condition of the MFI system in general and may end up switching to carbs for a while until I can get the MFI sorted out. (ducking the barrage of stones thrown by the MFIWDP )
