Who's Going To GGR AX School Weekend After Next?

Who's going to the GGR AX school weekend after next? I'd like to meet some Bay Area Pelicans. I think "cantdrv55", spouse, and "aigel" are going, I'm sure I've forgotten some others?

I'll have the blue Carrera with a tail and the American flag in the rear window.

I'm kind of rushing to get the car sorted out and the harnesses mounted before the AX school. Taking the family skiing next week, will get back home late Friday night before the school, now I discovered my left front tire fouls a hose mounting clip in the wheelwell during hard right turns - darn, but maybe there won't be any hard right turns at the school?

No hard right turns? Dude, there's gonna be some hard right turns. And some hard lefts, too. Lots of them. Sorry I won't be there, but my car is still without an engine. Look for me later in the season; white, #332.

What, hard turns at an AX? I thought it was all bench racing? :-)

I think I fixed my tire-clip fouling problem, but kinda hard to test on public roads . . .

I did that school last year with my 17 year old son. We had a great time and learned alot about my car's ability! The instruction was first rate and will be a great base from which to develop your driving! Good Luck and look for me later in the year in either a black '91 C2 Targa or a guard's red '88 924S!

I'll be there for sure in my brown SC targa and my wife in her cassis red (lavender) Carrera w/whale tail. I'm going to have my car looked at before the event though. Just developed a hard start problem and feels like it's misfiring/hesitating. See you there JYL.

I'll be there as well. Looking forward to it. I should be easy to spot. Just look for the tall guy trying to fit into the arena red 993 with a helmet. Thought I had more room. Guess I'll be looking for new seats soon.

Hey Guys,

I'm not participating this time around, but I'll probably swing by to offer some moral support and help out, if I can. GGR has always put on a great school and I'm sure this one will be no different.

I've got the white '86 cabriolet with a rollbar.

I'll look for you all if I wonder by!

Dean

Hey T!

Married life is great - we're taking the next step now and are house hunting. Kids are next, so we're getting plenty of driving in now before our time starts to evaporate...

Laura has become an AWESOME driver. She's now turning low 2:02's in our Carrera at Sears Point (I only turn 1:59's) and has been doing a lot of instructing for PCA and several other clubs. This year we're both going to do a little wheel to wheel racing with ARC.

Once we get the house, we'll have room for a couple karts, so we might see you out on the small tracks, too!!

I promise I'll get down to one of your Sunday morning drives one of these days.

Keep in touch,

Dean

What a great day! Despite the forecast for a rainy afternoon, the weather held up nicely. GGR and Poorboys put on a great event. Everyone was very friendly and helpful to all of us newbies. An extremely pleasant learning situation. I had a lot of fun learning to push my Porsche to the limit. As one of my instructors kept saying in the heat of battle, "make it dance, make it dance".

The course they had set up was just over half the length of what would be set up for a regular competitve event. The other part of the site was used for the skid pad exercise to start things off in the morning.

The limited registration (85 students) provided a lot of runs for everyone. One session in the morning and two in the afternoon. Each session gave us about 7 - 8 runs through the course. Practice, practice, practice.

Each student was set up with one instructor for the morning and a different instructor for the afternoon. I was fortunate enough to have Hank Watts in the afternoon. He literally 'wrote the book' and was a phenominal instructor. I found it amazing how calm he could be when I was screwing up and how much fun he was having as a passenger. For as long as he has been autocrossing, he was still like a kid in a candy store when he was driving. Can't think of a better way to get indoctrinated into this sport.

My first run (ever) was 41 secs. By the end of the day I was running consistent 35's with a couple of 34's. For comparison Hank ran my car a couple of times, both in the low 34's. So, I'd have to say the day was a success.

The hook as been set. Now I'm going to have to attend some of this year's events to get my 'fix'. For anyone in the SF bay area who is thinking about AX, plan ahead and attend next year's school. It is well worth worth it.

Kevin

I had a great time too. Plenty of driving time, nice course, good instructors. I would certainly recommend the course.

Very educational and great fun! My wife and I can't stop talking about the day's events. She shaved 20 secs from her first run and ended up with a personal best of 40.368. My fastest time was 37 and change. We're addicted so look for us at the next event. Great meeting up with a few Pelicans there too (32flat6, JYL and Michigan Mat and a couple of others whose usernames I can't remember. Sorry fellas.) Hope to see you all again on March 6!

JYL - it was nice to meet you.

What a blast! This was the wife's first DE event and she is now hooked! She ran the GRID, attended the gate and shagged cones. In addition to all that she went from a 46 to 38 seconds by the end of the day - I couldn't be more proud! I may have been a few seconds faster than her at this event, but it is only a matter of time and I'll be watching my back - or more likely - I'll be watching her tail (ok, I guess I already do that).

More autox is definitely on the agenda this year although the wife will be out of town for the next event at Candlestick.

A buddy of mine, Kirby from Rennlist, took a lot of photos at the event. Here's the link to the whole album:
