seat experiment a bust
well, got the old seat out, transfered the rails to the Recaro Speed, put it in, sat down...and hated it. Too narrow through the thighs for me. I tend to angle out my legs and bit and this seat doesn't allow that at all due to the high bolsters on the base. Ahh well...
So I'll find out about Speedware's return policy. If it is non-existent, I'll pop it in the classified ads. Still has the hang tags on it. |

This is what I'm scared of when I think about replacing the stock seats.
How come more people don't look into the RS America seats? They aint cheap but...

Reminds me of Nigel's statement "still got the tagger on it" in the Spinal Tap movie when Rob Reiner is looking at his extensive guitar collection. Makes me laugh every time I hear it!

Altho I am relatively new to the 911 boards, I have always had an aftermarket seat fetish....I thought the Speed replaced the SRD?.....I am surprised it is so confining..is the Speed more aggresssive? Re RSA seats..I agree they are awesome...they allow legs to be splayed a bit as the lower bolsters are minimal yet the lumbar bolsters are aggressive....but these seats really tend to be hard to find and very expensive used..plus they are quite heavy.....they would be awesome if just manually adjustable....

Not trying to be a hindsight guy, but wouldn't it of helped to try it out before you bought it? I found someone with SRD's and sat in them prior to buying. Seems something as individually suited as a car seat may not be to everyones liking.

The Speed replaced the SRD. Other than slight cosmetic differences, the only other difference is that the speed is a little wider in the upper torso. The seat area remains the same width.

Hindsight is 20-20, but I could only find some Sparco seats at a local shop. I was told that the Speed was "essentially the same fit" as the Sparco Monza, but I now know that not to be the case. Finding one mounted in a car would have been great, because even sitting in one on a showroom floor doesn't quite approximate the position due to the steering column and pedals.
As for the aftermarket seat fetish, 24 year old seats have 24 year old foam in them. And the stock design is not really designed for taller drivers with broad shoulder. |

And I agree with you about the RS Americas................. ![]() ![]() I like mine alot. Nice seats because they're cloth (a little softer and form-fitting, especially for a bony punk like me), bolt-in replacements and not too confining for street use. But they're not cheap is right! I think I paid $1100 for mine. Ouch. Agreed they'd be nicer if full manual adjust------->significantly lighter. Oh, and they are cat hair magnets. Never let a white cat near 'em!!!!! Wasn't my cat. Previous owner's. ![]()
