Arrow How important is the Color of your 911 to you?

Ok, just how much does color play into a Porsche buy. I know that when buying an early 911, vehicle condition is paramount. And I’ve heard over the years that in some cases, the buyer does not get to pick the color, the car does. Meaning that if a sound example is found and the color isn’t your favorite, don’t let that prevent the purchase. This is especially pertinent if the car of choice is older. Newer cars are more plentiful and as such, more to choose from. Older cars are out there, but finding a solid example takes a little while longer.

I appreciate bright colors on 911s. However, I’ve never liked bright colors on cars that I drive. Nothing compares to a Signal Orange or Mexico Blue 911. Yet, I would have a hard time driving those colors. I know, I’m an idiot. And you guys gotta help me.

So, lets say, for a minute, that you found a car that was right up your alley in terms of condition, subtle mods, and right price but was a VERY bight Yellow (not orginal BTW, original was black). The paint is in VERY good condition so a respray would be down the road a ways. I plan on keeping my next purchase a long, long time.

Would you pass based only on color?

Yes, but in the example I would factor in 're-paint' - Black of course.

When I bought the 993, I was looking for silver, black, blue or green. I bought a black one and after a few years, I'm ambivalent about the color.

When I was looking for an early car, I (predictably) wanted silver, black, blue or green. I initially passed on the Aubergine 73E that we eventually bought, based on pics of the color sent by the PO. He encouraged me and my wife to see it in person, which we did after putting it on the back burner for a couple of months, and we both liked it a lot.

Nowadays, I would definately buy an early car in many of the bright colors available back then.

Interestingly, the PO of my car actually sort of "withheld" the color during our initial phone conversation as he thought it would detract from the value of the car. To his surprise, I actually loved the color (Continental Orange).

As my father-in-law is fond of stating, "There's a butt for every seat". For every person who doesn't like the Signal Oranges and Mexico Blues, there are those (like me) who covet them...

To answer your question, though, no, I wouldn't pass if the only impediment was color....

I'm unusual in the regard....

But color isn't very important to me in any of my vehicles, Porsches included. I would however, prefer that the aint color be original.

Color is usually very important to me in a car, especially a 911. For me Black does it. I love it but it looks crappy when it's dirty.

I like a few reds as well.

it was a factor when i bought mine - i knew i wanted a darker, understated colour - i'm especially happy with moss green due to the rareity (sp?).

tho' if i were buying an older car, i wouldnt be so bothered - love the bright colours.

Color is a big factor. I hate the champagne colors that were popular in the late 70's/early 80's. Ok on sedans not on pcars. I love the bright colors. Remember you will be looking at that color every time you walk up to and get in your car.

like Richard above, I wanted to get a rarer more subtle colour. Red and white impact bumper cars are pretty much the norm over here. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one if it was 'the right car' though.+

I always want my cars to be black. Something about it looks clean to me. When it came to the early car, though, I had to realize the condition and mechanicals were more important. Look at it now, bright bright green. Best thing is, I love it. It's true, the color picked me. Sure, I still would like a black one, but the "period" color is so right, that I can't even imagine an early car w/o it. Although it may not look right on other cars, on these it's perfect.

No difference in the car I bought. I bought it because it was cheap and I knew that I will end up painting it whatever colour I want when I (finally) get it finished. The real problem is deciding what colour that is going to be. Of course I still haven't decied exactly what I am going to do with it yet either.

Hmm... well I initially didn't really like the sepia brown that I ended up with but it's grown on me.. so I guess what color doesn't matter much

Dave...
How long have you had the green 911?

l love Viper Green, but for some reason have a feeling that if I buy an early 911 in Viper Green I'll get bored of it after 6 months because it's too "loud" a colour.
Basically, what I want to know is, are you still in love with the colour? or do you wish it was a bit more discreet ?

i think getting the right car should be the emphasis. i got one of the strange 70's color, that might be interpreted as champagne. i am not thrilled by the "old man" vibe i get from it. but i'll me damned if it isnt growing on me. basically, i would factor in cost of a good respray during the thought process, for the right car. just the same as i would for any of the car's other issues.

That is a good question. It depends on how patient you are willing to be in finding a car. I would love to have a black car, but the car I found was what I wanted in red and I had been looking for quite a while, so I bought it.

I'm severely color-blind, so color doesn't matter much to me!

Color is key! My car was black, but the paint job was over 20 years old. Blue is my fav. color so I changed.

Very important. But it is will all cars...not just 911s.

Just my personal preferences....If I had a 911 that was grey, grey-blue, champagne...or had black fuchs...Id repaint and polish immediate. I just do not like those dingy looking 911s.

Red, Black, Yellow, Orange, Pacific Blue, even White looks great on a 911....

The only time I like black Fuchs is on an all Black or White car.

When I was looking for my car, I stuck to these requirements. And I wanted a Cab.
