early 70's vin & carfax

Thinking about buying an early 70's 911 this weekend. Sounds like I can't get a carfax with the old vin. How do I get title info, etc. quickly on the car? I can probably call the secretary of state in the state it's presently in to see when it was titled etc, but what other info can I get and how?

None, no way. It's too old to be tracked in any of the usual systems. Your best bet is good maintenance records and a thorough PPI.

Get a good PPI. Any car that old is a risk, PPI just makes it less of one. After all those years, I don't know how much stock I'd put in a carfax anyway.

I traced my 1969 911e back to 1984 through DMV records in Oregon. Before then it was all paper which is NLA.

Like others have said, PPI is the key. Look for rust, look for rust and look again.

I traced mine by VIN through PCA, I got all the owners names that registered it with them, then called them. Most were glad to here it was still around and wanted me to send pix. I even got a copy of old speeding tickets from one of them. But good books and records are your best bet.
