Price Range on 1988 911 Cab
I am going to look at it today.
This is what I know. All original 56K, Blue not sure of interior. All records to show proper maint history. Car in near perfect shape. What do you value a car like this, know information is limited. Michael

Just got this from the seller.
It starts with 7s+9s (factory fuchs)then, SS monti exhaust, C.D. player new tires, 15K$ in recent 'just because' engine work and it ends with a very fair asking price.

Beautiful car! (I could do without the wing)
$25,000 would be fair to cheap, I guess.

That is a great looking car tail and all. If the car is totally clean, I would pay up to $ 25k for it, but I have seen clean 88 cabriolets with similar milege (when I bought mine in June and when looking to replace it this fall) going in the $ 19k to $ 22k range. It just depends how serious they are at moving it or if it is someone that will sell it and buy something else only if the price they get is right. I saw a few turbo look cabs with similar miles and in similar condition in the $ 25k to $ 27k range a few months back and had PPIs on an 87 and 88 turbo looks both of which were gorgeous. The 87 was white for $ 25k with 60k miles and the 88 was red with 70k miles and it was $ 27.5k. I ended going with an 88 Commerative for $ 26k that was in perfect condition.

The guy wants 28.5k, sound high, alos wonder why someone would put 15K in engine work with only 56K miles. I am going to go over and look at it.

$ 15K is alot of engine work, but a new rebuild could be good thing. If it was perfect, just had a total rebuild and needed absolutely nothing, $ 27K maybe. The downside is you are getting close to 993 cabriolet range and could have a real nice 964 cabriolet. Just comes down to what you prefer.

15k on the rebuild, Wonder if they did the g50 update? I have a 89 with 57k and the engine is perfect, Don't need no stinking 15k rebuild. Whats up with that ?

It does look like a very nice, clean car, and I would definitely pursue it if it is what you are looking for. However, is the seller (salesman) telling you that 15k was spent on the rebuild, or have you verified it via records/paperwork? I'd be more inclined to believe the car had 15k in records TOTAL. Also, it is quite easy to remove the fan/shroud, clean it up, paint it blue (why?), and call it a "rebuild" (ala Motor Meister). Speaking of blue, why is the heater blower painted blue? Pretty tacky IMO, and might be indicative of the work (or lack thereof) performed. Otherwise looks like a great car. Just my $.02

Looks nice, I'd want documentation of the engine stuff though, I'm always paranoid with dealers.

I know the dealer, and am not worried about him.

Now in 993 land ...

15k in engine work? That's a complete overhaul, even at a top notch builder. Why would it need that? Why would you do that "just because"? Give me a break.
Note that mileage on these cars is easily tampered with and only pay a premium for the low mileage if you have a seamless history of oil changes and services that make odometer tampering very unlikely. (E.g. if you have records showing mileage every 3-6 months without large gaps). George |
