I was driving a bit too aggressively.... and took a corner too sharply rubbing my nice Fuchs (rear passenger side) against the curb.
(The Yokohama "curb protection lip" did not do its job as advertised) Can this be buffed out? ![]() There is that type of damage on three different edges of the rim. Last edited by Sonic dB; 02-27-2004 at 05:11 PM.. |

I couldn't access the picture site you posted. If your scuff is on the edge of the rim and not too bad I would take them to someone like Al Reed and have them buffed out and polished. I had a baby scuff on one of my 8s and Al took one look at it and said 'that's nothing, I can fix that'. What a nice guy.
Again, hard to say without a pic. |

Steve, Im surprised that you cant open the pic. It opens fine on mine. Yes, its a scuff...kinda large. Id like to buff it out myself because it is my daily driver and I cant take the wheel off to send it to Al Reed. But if he can do it, the I can too.... thanks!

I'm getting an error.
If you're gonna DIY then you'd probably need to sand out the scratch and then polish just as long as is isn't so far into the metal. I'd definitely think about getting them rebalanced. My .02 |

I can't open the pix either. If they still have anodizing on the lips, it might be a harder repair. If they are already down to polished AL, you should be able sand out the rash and repolish. Without the pix it's hard to know but I've taken sanded some large scratches out without a problem.

scruff
Can't get the pic either. If it is really bad it can be welded and polished/chromed by a good wheel shop. Good luck.

Harvey Weidman does this as well. If it's too bad to buff out, he'll weld it up and it will look perfect. You can't anodize after welding, though. The welds will look like permanent water spots. You'll have to keep them bare polished.

I had a local place fix mine when i bought someone's track fuchs. Sanded off anodizing on the rim with a 90% sander, finished with some 600 grit paper and blends in to the factory anodizing just fine.
Pics on this thread Just got curb rash removed from Fuchs

You can buff out almost any rash/scratch but you will have to lose the anodization and then polish the lip. This opens up much more work. If not prepared to do this (read the 1000+ post on fuch polishing) send them out.

Scottb, do you have some kind of software program that recognises any word with "fuchs" in it and it will automatically responds with "Al Reed"?.

Sonic, there is a place here in Redondo that does all of mine. The name escapes me right now, but it is on Manhattan Beach Blvd, east of Inglewood, just BEFORE you go under the 405 going east on MB Blvd. Is on the right hand side. Let them take a look at it, and he'll tell you honestly what he thinks.
