Paint question
If this is the incorrect forum, please send me where I belong (be nice). I am in the finishing stages of a build -car & engine- I want the engine to be the same color as the car. Can VHT paint be custom mixed? The typical body paint won't withstand head temps.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. dino |

I would not attempt to paint the actual engine. Fan, housing and engine tin would be all I'd paint. If you put enamel on the heads and case, it will come off eventually and you will compromise cooling because you add and insulating layer of paint!

You can't see the heads anyway. Valve covers? Yes, you could have them matched in a powder coat. Same with engine tin, fan and the metal part of the fan shroud. The fiber glass shroud could be painted with the body paint. There's still alot to go; the intake runners and CIS gizmos. What are you going to do with the air box and cover? I think you can get a custom cover in fiberglass or CF.

I used Por-15 black on my engine case 40k miles ago. It's still gloss perfect. it's gotta be prepped for it to last.
If I wanted to match the car color, I'd scuff the case Por and blend some acrylic urethane. I'd probably scuff my tranny Por black and shoot it the same color as well. Por can be a great base.

Answer to paint question
Urethane paint
Apparently, according to some hot rod forums, urethane paint can be used on an engine and it can be custom mixed to match the body. |

Unless you are a very large volume buyer I doubt VHT will mix a custom color.
