Question Dumb Wheel Question

Showing my lack of knowledge here...... Got my first Porsche a month ago. I'm wondering how wide my wheels are. The measurement across the rim (outside to outside) is about 8.75" (rear wheel). Is this an 8" wheel?
Thanks.

Josh

Josh;

Welcome to the board! Do a search on 'wheel sizes'... there was an extensive thread a couple of weeks ago. There might be part numbers on the wheels that would confirm what they are too. The thread had the sizes and part numbers all referenced.

Good Luck!

Yep, the best way to tell is to pull the wheel and look for the marking on the backside. It's something like 8x15j (indicating a 15" x 8" wheel) or something like that. Generally they aren't measured from outside to outside, so most people probably won't be able to tell you from that measurement.

I see you have an '87. What diameter are they, 15 or 16? Stock it probably would have had either 15x7 and 15x8 or 16x6 and 16x7. I think 15x6 and 15x7 were also an option, but the 16's were the most common I think. Of course in the past 15 years someone could have put different wheels on, so they could be completely different from the above sizes too.

What size tires do you have?

They're 15". I wish they were 16", that purchase is on hold for now though. Tires are 215/60/R15 and 195/65/R15. I just looked on the back of the wheel and it's labeled 8J 15.
Thanks.
