to all the instructors that were at willow streets today, thanks so very much, my day was how should i put it, awesome. well i must say i am very glad to have been out there running today, the track was pretty crowded but we made it work. i was just unsure about what class my car would fall into and what the top times for that class are. the specs on my car are as follows:
74 911 chassis, no sunroof. 78 3.0 sc engine rear fender flares 15x7, 15x8 rims running on street rubber fiberglass front iroc bumper, rs rear, ducktail front mount oil radiator bigger torsions in rear strut brace full rs carpet interior rs door panels race seats and harnesses car still has its air conditioner and also a stereo weighs in at 2380lbs with a half tank, spare, jack and tools out. Glenn said that my car would fall under the IP class rules, is this right?? In my timed session at the end of the day I ran a 1:19.69 and 1:19.4 this is my first time at the track and was wondering if those were decent times for my car and its setup. thanks to all with input. |

Those are fantastic times for your first try! Heck those are even good for your 3rd or fourth try. Nice job!

BTW which direction did you run today? Clockwise or CCW?

Sounds like you had a good time, did you let your dad in the car? Sorry I didn't make it out to see you two, I spent most of the day chasing around looking at houses, and dropping 'vair parts off to be repaired.

tyson, we ran ccw and i had a blast. my first run i went out with otto, then i was with marty, then i went out with mark osterkamp, then i went out with magnus and also bill who runs in the red group in a 996 with blue wheels. so i had some great experience and a lot of different input. yes kevin, rick went out in the car as well and had a fantastic time. now we are looking into some slick rubber and hopefully those boxster calipers. times to drop a bit more i hope. we saw a red corvair at the track and wondered if it was yours. see both of you guys soon and thank you to all the instructors that put up with me on my first time.

i ran streets of willow for a few years in a stock '73 911E. the only mod's i had made were to install a race seat & 5 point harness, and race tires. i could consistently run 1:22's in either direction, although i liked running counter clockwise better because i could get a good head of steam coming down the hill on the long straight.
i was running 1:30's until i added the race seat & race tires. i dropped 6 - 8 seconds in a hurry when i was firmly planted in front of my steering wheel, and firmly planted on the road. that is a great course for the less powerful cars like mine. if i ran the big track at willow, i wouldn't have the power to keep up with the faster machines. |

Sounds like great times for your car the first time out, do you have some other track experience? Counter-clockwise is a blast, IMO, I've run it both ways but coming down the front @ 100+mph and trail braking into the skid pad is fun.
![]() My car is a pretty stock '82 SC that needs to be dialed in suspension-wise w/ AVS ES100s, I have only 2.5 track days in so far but I ran ~1:25s at streets last time. That was according to a wristwatch, I was too cheap to spring for a transponder and just trying to learn how to drive, but next time I want to know my times. ![]()

this was, my very first time on a track in any car for that matter. i really fealt like i should have gone a little quicker, haha, i didnt like my entrance into the chicane.
denis i have to agree, hauling the car in from 100+ into the skidpad is a blast and i had my fair share of locking up a bit into that corner. i desperately want to go back and run in the blue group so i can get a better flow going during my sessions. now i am looking into an extra set of rims so i can get some slicks for the track. i noticed a large amount of guys out on kuhmo's the past weekend. any thoughts??

Those sound like great times, you beat me, that's for sure.
What a blast! I continued to improve throughout the weekend so I’m very happy about how I did. My best time CCW was a low 1:22, CW was a low 1:23. I really need some seats and a harness, I spent as much time trying to stay behind the wheel as I did steering the car. My instructors were great, but neither were 911 guys so it took a little time to dial in the right line. The only thing that I wish they would do better is pairing instructors and students up w/ like cars, but w/ over 100 drivers, most instructors had two students and I know at least one had three, so I can understand that not being possible this weekend. I need a dedicated track car that I can run in a stock class for sure now. ![]()

the new tires and rims are not going to be happening anytime soon. im just looking into it so i know how much money to start saving up and if i run across a set of rims in the sizes i need to pick them up but wait on the rubber.
btw, jack, your car now weighs i think about 4 pounds less than before with your interim CV axles. i just cant wait until the next POC sts event!! hoping the new brakes and front shocks are on by then, i really cooked em last weekend, they are original stock.

If anyone knows his way around the track, it's "Otto." Sounds like you benefitted nicely from his and other very accomplished instructors. If you can retain the feel and the line for your next event, the learning curve will indeed be short for you. Top job.
