Factory painted Fuchs gold
Hi everyone,
I'm new here, been lurking but this is my first post. I just put a set of 15x7 and 15x8 Fuchs wheels on ebay and a potential buyer questioned if in fact these wheels came this way from Porsche. They are painted a light gold color and from what i know and can tell these are original factory gold wheels, correct me if im wrong please. You guys know a lot more than i do...Thanks. Here is a link to the pics. |

Well, you have stated on ebay already that they are rare, so I am thinking you know more about these than I do. If they are not factory, you are going to need to let folks on ebay know this. You have good credit there so asking this 'board is a good idea, though you may have done so prior to ebaying. But I digress...
The Weissach editions used 16"ers if memory serves, and the color was a bit different from that gold. I have to wonder if these are 911 wheels or another Porsche car. Better minds than mine will know. Best of luck on your sale, John

Thanks John, I am going by what i have been told about the wheels. I wanted to get as much info for the bidders as posible and not give any bad advice. I had one Guy come look at them and tell me "Yes these are factory option painted wheels "and showed me a few things to look for on them.
All that is great but this group seems to have all the answers and i value your opinions. I just want to make sure all the info i give is 100% correct. |

Those look as if they came off a Weissach, but they were made in 84 & the Weissachs are 1980s. I believe the Weissach had black center caps as well, but they did come with 15x7/8s.

I had those exact same wheels on my '84 944. I have the original bill of sale at home, so I can look up what the (extra) price was, but in the mean time I can confirm that those were in fact a "special order Platinum painted alloy". Rare, yes, but not ultra - rare.

Those exact wheel color was on display at Rennsport Porsche here in town and per the owner they are a factory color. Not all Fuchs were black.

That same color Fuchs' finish was available as early as 1974 on the RS 3.0 ... the factory press car [AY5-2511] seen in several magazine articles was Grand Prix White with gold decals and Fuchs!

Okay the speculation is over. I just got home from the office and dug up the original bill of sale from my 944. According to what I see, these wheels were a $205.00 extra Platinum Metallic 15in wheel option. (in 1984 dollars, of course). I know that they were a special order option for early 944s as well. If you didn't request anything and wanted Fuchs, you got black centers at the time.
Quite the nice look, IMHO. Now I'm really missing that car ![]()

By all means, my friend. If anyone really presses you on this, I can even fax a copy of the info if need be. Happy selling.
