Question Possible Sources of Gas Leak?

Today I was looking around my battery box, trying to dream up a way to mount my battery in there, I realized that my car shouldn't smell like gas, it hasn't ran in three weeks. Any ideas where common gas leaks are up in the front trunk area of a carbed 70T? There's no puddles underneath, and I've replaced my gas cap because of a gas smell in the cabin, it helped but didn't eliminate the problem. Any guidance before I start taking stuff apart would be great.

There is a soft line for a few inches before the hard line starts through the tunnel. Slow leaks can evaporate before you see a puddle while building up the stink. I hate gas smell in the car. On my old '77 Targa, I never topped off. In fact, I stayed 2-3 gallons short at each fill. If not, it smelled of gas. The car was in very good condition and maintained by Andial, so it was not an overlooked problem. I think alot of Porsches just do this.

But, make sure your hard line is good and check that short line under the gravel pan and above the steering rack.

Thanks Milt, so this soft line is coming directly off of the tank, and I just need to take loose the pan to check it? I normally only put 10 or 11 gallons at a time in my car, I've only filled it once, my wife wouldn't ride with me for a few days after that. The seal on my cap was shot, so replacing that helped a little, then I found my leaky Weber that's still in the progress of being fixed, maybe when this is all done I can enjoy a relatively odor free car.

onewhippedpuppy,

I am experiencing the same thing in my car, I'll take a look again. BTW, I love your Avatar (Office Space)! Didn't the "boss" drive a 911?

Yeah Art, Bill Lumbergh drove a light blue SC, every time I watch I cringe when the tow truck pulls off his bumper. FWIW, replacing my gas cap helped some, the rubber seal in it was shot, something you might try.
