Question Engine removal - 77 911S

As I mentioned in an earlier post. I want to;

Change plugs
Set Valves
Install Turbo chain tensioners
Install air box pop off valve
Generally give the engine a good cleaning

Sooooooooooo, how hard is it to get the engine out? Are their instructions available somewhere on the procedure?

Thanks again,

Jay

Are you sure you want/need to remove the engine? The reason I ask is that once out, you will have to raise the motor up to work on it. At least stabilize it; you can't just leave it on the jack. It would be easier to do some of the things you mentioned while it's still in the car unless you are prepared to bring the motor out topside and place it on an engine stand. Or some elavated working surface.

Jim below: Too funny!

Take the engine out, put it on an engine stand and work on it like a gentleman . Jim

It's a right of passage, I know it seems scary, but it's really quite easy. If you want more info, search "engine drop", you'll find more info than you can digest. I just did my first a while back, engine/ tranny together, I did it alone, and it was simple. Just take your time and you'll do fine. You might want to consider replacing all of the common oil leak trouble spots while it's out, it's cheap insurance. I would highly recomend this thing though, http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/ptoo/POR_PTOO_miscel_pg1.htm, it's the jack adapter at the top, I balanced mine on a floor jack on a pallet, and it sucked, I won't be doing that again.

all those things can be done just as easily with the engine in the car.

The word, of the Lord........thanks be to God. The man has spoken, the best thing you can do is listen to him Jay, unless you've decided on more stuff to do to your engine. Valves would probably be easier with it out, but it's not worth pulling it just for the valves.

A "good cleaning" is damn hard to do with the engine in the car. However with a enough long pipe cleaners it is likely possible. Jim

Some of the areas one can't see are critical for engine cooling- top of cylinder fins, top of engine mounted oil cooler, etc. Jim
