Update on is the search over?

Got a call from the seller yesterday. The PPI was completed and all checked out well. I will be confirming this tonight as i am meeting with him to discuss the PPI and sale. The seller said I would be extremely happy with the PPI, no broken headstuds etc. I am excited now and will give details later on :D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1078340953.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1078340964.jpg

onewhippedpuppy 03-03-2004 11:55 AM

Kick ass! That's great, I bet you can't wait for tonight. Good luck, that's a great looking targa. Make sure you either talk to the mechanic or get it all on paper, just to make sure you're getting the whole story, always make sure to CYA.

AZ1977911 03-03-2004 11:56 AM

Best time of year here for a new Porsche. Drive, learn the in/outs of your new car. Then DRIVE it like you Stole it!!!

Danskman 03-03-2004 12:00 PM

All these damn cool Targas are popping up... makes me think... if I sell my coupe... I've always loved Targas... oh crap. Here we go again.http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/.../gaapslaap.gif

FenderGuy 03-03-2004 12:02 PM

The seller has the papers from Stuttgart of Arizona who performed the PPI also fixed the trans bushing and and think he said a something with the fuel that needed fixing, i will have all the details later on tonight. I am pretty much excited i am looking foward to this...AZ1977911 yeah it is the best to drive in Arizona weather couldnt be any nicer(when its not cloudy or rainy) Targa weather if i dont mind saying :D

boston95 03-03-2004 12:11 PM

Listen to Matt. Seems as if you're the 'third wheel' in this exchange. Get on the horn ASAP with the mechanic. The seller's dealings with the shop should be limited to drop off and pick up times.

Nice Targa!

vash 03-03-2004 01:54 PM

yowzah! all these new cars on the bbs! i think you are coming down with a fever, and cough. get the eff outta there! lookin GOOD!

Bravo 03-03-2004 02:19 PM

That is a NICE! looking Targa ............ But I am partial to them!

FenderGuy 03-03-2004 08:37 PM

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1078374524.jpg
Heres a partial list of the inspection
Brakes 70%

Initerior lights: dome light inoperative
Targa Top: Poor Condition( has rips on top but still fit good)
transmission: works good
Compression test/leakdown: very good, retorqued heads ok, leakage test #1-4%, #2-2%, #3-3%, #4-2%, #5-4%, #6-4%
Belts : good
These were the items that were put in writing the rest of the items were either very good or good...what do you guys think?
remember its a 1983 SC Targa 91k orignal miles

MotoSook 03-03-2004 08:40 PM

What was the price again? None of the above seem to be a deal killer...

FenderGuy 03-03-2004 08:43 PM

12k ...seller will not go down on it. I just paid $240 for the inspection and compression check and headstud check. I have to give Stuttgart a call tomorrow, i didnt have time before i met the seller tonight, to talk the wench.

FenderGuy 03-03-2004 08:44 PM

seller also pai for fuel acclumlator and had work done to the shift bushings since there was play in the shifter

aigel 03-03-2004 08:47 PM

I think you are in good shape to go buy this car. While the seller may have been too involved in the PPI etc., I don't think there is any major problems with the way things went. If this is a reputable shop they have put things in writing, there shouldn't be any worries. After all, you are the new owner and a potential customer. They won't make any more $ on the previous owner. :D

Just go buy the sucker and have FUN!

George

MotoSook 03-03-2004 08:48 PM

Like I said the things you listed are fairly minor. The targo top is an issue I'd tried to use to your advantage. Good ones are still expensive used, or you'll pay several hundred to get the tears fixed. May a couple hundred off I would guess. The engine sounds tight, and if the chassis is clean and straight and you like it...go for it. It's your money, make sure YOU are happy with the purchase.

onewhippedpuppy 03-03-2004 08:52 PM

Buy it! Actually, I'd talk to the mechanic first, but it sounds good. Another option to the soft top recover is a fiberglass targa top, I think Pelican sells them, not sure how much but they look nice. Go for it, I think you found a good one. Seems to me it's a good sign the owner paid to have those small issues fixed, he's selling the car, so he didn't have to.

nostatic 03-03-2004 08:56 PM

If you like the car, seems like a keeper. The numbers indicate that the previous bad comp/leak were likely carbon (not driving these things hard is a bad, bad thing). Fuel accumulator is a common replacment, along with the shift things. Seems like a fair price. Of course realize that you will find stuff wrong with it in short order...no PPI is perfect, and these are old cars, and stuff wears out. When was the clutch last replaced and have the shocks been replaced? Any "major systems" that haven't been replaced (brakes, suspension, carerra tensioners, clutch, etc) figure into your "sooner rather than later" costs. This seems like a decent car at a fair price.

First thing you have to do is lower it, get an alignment and corner balance. And fuzzy dice. Lots of fuzzy dice.

FenderGuy 03-03-2004 08:59 PM

Yeah Matt was pretty cool he had faith in me to pay for the PPI and Headstud check and ask for the money later. He was straight foward and said I want to sell you the car since your knowlegable about the car and you would seem to want to take care of it (i was thinking no shet:D) and also how i paid him back for the PPI and headstud check....I think this is the car I have been looking , the minor stuff with the car dont bug me, the seller was give me a answer by the end of the week and thats what i am going to do

FenderGuy 03-03-2004 09:03 PM

nostatic the car has carrera fed tensioners thats the first thing i asked when i first went and drove the car, the clutch was replaced recently but then again i will have to ask the wench or the seller he has the paper work that shows what was replaced and what work was done to the car recently. Lower it? i thought the car was plently lower when i drove it , you guys and your ass to the ground thoughts :D

aigel 03-03-2004 09:09 PM

The car is jacked up in the air like a monster truck. That thing needs to come down! :)

Just take it to your first autocross and you will see what we mean. :D

cantdrv55 03-03-2004 09:12 PM

Great choice, the SC targa. But, then again, I'm biased. Items found on PPI seems minor with exception of targa top which would run you about $800 to rebuild. You could DIY with help from this BBS. Buy the sucker and drive, drive, drive!

vash 03-03-2004 11:09 PM

dome light? i dont have a dome light! i like the list, yes the targa top is going to need to be fixed. everything else you can handle. maybe even the top, but i cant even make a bed properly or wrap Christmas presents. haha. buy it dude.

onewhippedpuppy 03-04-2004 05:08 AM

Dome lights are for sissys! Those precious amps could be used for more HP!:p

FenderGuy 03-04-2004 07:56 AM

I need that dome light to be working when I valet my car at night :D

Danskman 03-04-2004 08:37 AM

I'd say, click on "BUT IT NOW!" :D Great car. Very fair price for an '83 with 91,000. Smart move on the PPI. As with any used car, 10,000 miles or 100,000 miles, there's no guaranty, but now you can go in with confidence and a baseline. I foresee some non-stop smiling in your very near future!

onewhippedpuppy 03-04-2004 08:39 AM

You're going to let a stranger touch your car?! That's like letting a priest babysit your child!:p I shouldn't talk like that, since I'm going to become a catholic. I don't have such worries, in the big city of Great Bend, high class= Applebees, not exactly a valet sort of place.

ed bates 03-04-2004 08:52 AM

Seller to let you know?

Why does the seller need to let you know?? I don't understand....Is he selling it or not...........Looks like a great car...

FenderGuy 03-04-2004 08:54 AM

FenderGuy 03-04-2004 08:56 AM

Try telling that to your 915 transmission  $$$$$

FenderGuy 03-04-2004 09:22 AM

I miss a couple of upshifts when i drove the car, i wasn
t use to the 915, I know these transmission have to be shifted right or else. So tell me what damage can happen to the 915 is its not shifted good. Its a question i have had for a while now.

missing shifts, is part of the learning curve. i dont think you can really do much damage unless you were blasting down the road and a missed shift causes your engine to rev to the sky unbridled. i am a crappy shifter. getting better tho.

cliff.
buy it.

ed bates 03-04-2004 10:04 AM

If

If you don't buy it, let me know, I am interested....

Thanks.......

It isn't just missed shifts that cause problems with the 915. You have to shift them slooowly because the syncro's are delicate. After rebuilding my 915 and replacing all the syncros $$$, I made it a point to pause briefly as I moved the lever out of one gear and into the next. Sometimes I even double clutched just to be on the safe side.

DonDavis is right. I just HATE it when women see my car - especially when they smile and wave. And I really hate it when they stick their heads out the window and yell "Woo Hoo !!" as they drive past me on the highway. Just awful. Dreadful. Unbearable. In fact, I think I'm gonna sell the 911 and buy a Neon.

:p

Just shift a little slower than usual, like Janus said, this isn't a Honda. If you force, you will break stuff. Also, don't get in a hurry and miss a gear, say you're downshifting from fifth, try to get third and end up getting first, then very expensive stuff happens in a hurry. Timing chain jumps, valves hit pistons, and all the girls point and laugh.:D If you worry, get a gateshifter of some sort.
