I would like to do the opposite bu have never been able to determine if Porsche made fixed window sets with shiny trim that would match my '72. I would gladly trade my pop outs and all necessary bits for an equivalent set of fixed parts.

why would you not want the pop outs? do they leak or somthing

I think beginning in '74 they were fixed and bright. By '77, they were anodized black. I may be off a year or so, but the point is that you can get the fixed frames from any year and polish them to match. For a better match, use a clear powder coat.

I hope this is correct, please, anyone, correct any mistruths.

Actually mid year cars had pop out windows and chrome. My 76 does. I think some early SC's had bright trim as well, and black trim became the only option in 1980, let me stress that "I think" that is the case. I'm not sure if the bright trimmed SC's had fixed or pop-out windows though. I have black rear quarter window trim I would swap with you if you wanted. I'd even strip it and polish it for ya. It is from a 1980 SC.

I think the glass surrounds are clear anodised aluminum and the smaller bits are chromed steel so stripping ans polishing wouldn't really match. Thanks for the offer though; if mine become available I'll let you know.

My '74 had pop-outs.

I apologize for reviving a thread so old, I didnt feel like i should start a thread over a specific question regarding this modification

I started this modification on my 84 carrera and i removed the exterior thin flange but I was not able to get the windows to fit in the slits. the slits dont seem to align and are blocked from the inside

after reading this thread again,i believe im supposed to remove the inner side of the thin flange, but I would like to make sure before i attempt this.

if someone would have an explanation or photos that demonstrate this, it will greatly be of help.

By the looks of it you took off the thin "flange" on the outside of that post. What you found underneath are those 2 slots. Correct?

If you look inside you might see something blocking the window tabs, those are the pieces you have to tap for screws to go into. You can move those tabs by putting a flat head screwdriver into the slots.

Does that make sense?

There shouldn't be anything else to remove.

could you tell me the size of the tap that's required inside the piece you described?

I'll check tomorrow. I remember using a m5x0.8 tap and a m8x1.25 tap. I think the m5 was used for the b-pillar screws. You'll have to drill the holes out as well. The m5 requires a 4.2mm bit.

When you do this if you don't have the hardware buy really short screws. I found black Philips head screws that were 16mm long that did the job. I also couldn't drill and tap the bottom hole but it feels secure with just the top 3.
