Come'on whats wrong with Sepia Brown?

I see alot of P-owners shying away from Sepia Brown as an original color..........I do not get it.

For those of you who have been around in the early 70's, the most popular colors of the day were lemon yellow, orange, cherry red, lime green, electric blue, the ever popular forrest racing green and the usual smattering of metallic silvers, coppers, maroons and blues. Maybe those colors are making a comeback.............

For that guy who walked into that Porsche showroom in 1973, his eyes must have popped out to see this room full of colorful cars like a bag of skiddles! So, you have to wonder just who found that carmel colored little gem amongst this rainbow of metal attractive and desireable? Probably a conservative gent or lady.

The Sepia Brown imakes for a beautiful cars that believe it or not was inspired by Dr. Porsche himself!! His personnal 928 was a Sepia Brown colored vehicle. I understand he adored the color.

Sure I can strip it all down and go with the ever popular guards red, black, white or silver, but I choose to maintain its originality and let it stand as a monument of its day.

Sepia Brown owners stand up and be counted!!!!!!!!!!!! I am tired of the yeeks and blahs.

Bob
1973.5T/Sepia of course

I dont mind it at all. It never will be one of the more desirable colors for these cars. thats fine with me. I dont really care who doesnt like it or why. I will always take a serious look at a Sepia car thats for sale for reasons other than the color.

Im sure its not the case of all of them, but most of the Sepia cars that i have seen for sale are have been well cared for, take longer to sell, are priced lower, and are fairly original. Lets face it. How many people have actually resprayed one of these cars Sepia? Not many. I probably wouldnt do it either. If you see a Sepia car, chances are good that the paint is original or mostly original.

If my car had been silver, white, orange, green or just about any other color it would have sold 6 months before I ever saw the ad for 25% more than i paid for it.

I would disagree with the issue of resale when it comes to this color. Your target market are those seeking orginality, and if the car is maintained well collector's will be interested. I have met many folks who love the color and car based on its originality. When I began my search for an older model my intention was to find a 911 restored by the prior owner (which I did) who kept the original color, which happened to be Sepia Brown. I would have settled for a T, E or S.

Sepia was a color used by Mercedes back in the 70's, which you come across once in a awhile around town here. It would be interesting to find the factory records to see just how many Sepia Brown Porsches were produced.

That buyer who passed those brilliant colored Porsches of their day in that showroom to buy the Sepia was'nt concerned about getting attention or was he?!

My first Porsche was a Sepia Brown 73.5 911T. I loved it. My friends referred to it as Baby **** Brown #2. My wife referred to it as POS #1. Recently, my boss converted a '73 Sepia Brown '73 to an RS but changed the color to Titanium. He hates Sepia Brown. He painted EVERYTHING but, deep inside, it was still Sepia Brown. A friend and his wife race a Sepia Brown '73 (what's with all these '73s?), - they lovingly refer to it as "The Roach".

Sepia Brown is a "Period" color - you either love it or heate it. Very few people I know are neutral about Sepia Nrown.

Let's see a pic? Anyone?
My car was originally Sephia, but the PO went Aubergine and the lacquer paint was badly spiderwebed when I got it. I have never seen any pics of my car with the original paint.

sephia brown is fine now puke beige is nasty(my dad had a new 924turbo that color) Now I think your right on more than likely it is original paint. no if you look at a red 911 odds are it has 3-4 blend panels that I can see from 20 feet away. viper green probably not much in the way of blends but black you would see that for sure.. Sephia is typically a virgin color. Flipper I am pretty sure mr hankey is sephia last I remebered(been 7-8 years since I saw it though)

Ben, I ran the color code (408-9-1)on the door jamb, and it came back as a chocolate brown, or a cokney brown. I thought it was Sepia(sp) brown to start with, but then I saw Sepia and it was lighter and I believe it might have metallic in it? I lovingly refer to mine as a wonderful shade of Mr Hankey brown.

With all those cool colours, my car is/was originally black! No wonder it lasted and only has 86K, it had a BORING owner! Personally, I don't care for sepia but I love the crazy bright colors. I would love to own a lime green or blood orange car!

I love the colors of the 60 and 70th cars. So much more personal. Wish mine was one of them. I very fond of the GPW though and it has a bit of racing history if I´m not misinformed.

Have to agree. This would be great with pictures..

you can disagree, but you will not sell one of these cars for the same price and as fast as you will sell and equally nice car in a color like white, silver, red, black, etc. Talk to the PO of my car if you dont believe me

flippers car is very close to Mocha (451)

'Blood Orange'/Blutorange/Tangerine is another great period color. I think I actually like Olive (414) and Leaf Green (6380) a little better than Sepia for today. As much as I like Sepia, if I had to respray my car today, I would do it in Slate Grey (L6401) like the LeMan's car.

OK guys,,, you asked for it.

Here's a digital pic of a framed pic of my first 911 - shot at a late '80 auto-x. Note the "period" gold Cookie Cutters.

I have no worries about getting a good price when the times comes to selling a restored 1973.5T in Sepia Brown. Its all in the marketing lads!

In the meantime, I still dig the thumbs up going down the street. Maybe its the "S" trim chrome around the wheel wells, along the rocker panels and the gold "911T" and "Porsche" lettering on the rear deck that pleasantly frames it out. I have a ton of photos that could change some opinions, but I cannot load em on!

Anyways, its pure Porsche and we cannot disagree on that.

Bob
