F40! Anytime!
959 looks aren't as cool as 911 looks... And F40 has become a timeless design almost like the 911

F40 here as well, but I'd trade up to the new Ford GT in a minute which I feel not only looks better it also has an engine that can easily be modified for even more HP. I like the Saleen S7 as well and for the same reasons. Now make it a contest between the Enzo and the Carrera GT and I'd stay in the Porsche stable. It's not that I don't like the 959 it is a nice car with a lot of great features but I don't feel it has the timeless beauty of the 911. How about a street version of the 993 based GT1? Now there's a car I'd love to have!

F40 I never get tired of this clip.http://www.tubistylejapan.com/tubiF40.002.mpg.mpg

F40.

I saw Bill Gate's Silver 959 at the Porsche Dealer's couple of days ago, in for service. It is kinda dated, looks like my 88 with a fugly body kit.

Unlike the F50 and the 959, the F40 is timeless.

Both are dream cars, but I wouldn't want to own any of them.

Still the F40 is more outrageous and has the added plus of being better looking than both the F50 and the Enzo. I've never seen a 959 other than on pictures. The F40 I've seen and it's fantastic.

I'd pick the one worth the most, then sell it.

The F-40 hands down..I love the 959, but the Ferrari is such a raw awesome race car.

holy schmoley
I've always loved the F40, probably for the holy ***** factor, as shown by that vid!!

I had a F40 Hot Wheel way before the 959 came along :o

F40

959 in a heartbeat. Its the pinnacle of Porsche development (and was a bit unwise at the time). The technology in it is fascinating to me. I am not so sure about it getting its ass handed to it by a 996 TT. They have less power, but would probably handle better. But then again, one in GT Purely Porsche (959) had a factory power upgrade to 550bhp!

Since I found out Bill Gates owns a 959, I have been turned off. I would rather have a Liberty B4 Wagon as the geek factor would be less.

The F40 is a truly stunning work of mechanical art.

I think I would have to go with the F-40. There is something about that car that has always interested me.

Wayne, what about you?

limble 03-06-2004 05:22 AM

F40 only because it would put me further up the food chain.
Actually The car I really want is a 250 GT SWB.
A guy in the local SCCA has one and races it. He is my hero.

BlueSkyJaunte 03-06-2004 05:58 AM

For some reason later Ferraris (except the 360 Modena) do nothing for me. So I guess I'd go with a 959. Gotta have one of those if you're going to own one of each Porsche model ever made (pre '98, of course). ;)

Elombard 03-06-2004 06:07 AM

Really? the 355 berlinettas do it for me, not a huge fan of the 348s though. I guess parts for them are really expensive but the price of entry is coming down for the early ones.

MOMO3.2 03-06-2004 07:43 AM

F40 in a heartbeat!

I was fortunate enough to get a ride in one. It was brand new and I think they were selling for about $1,000,000,000 at the time. My neighbor took me for a spin. All I know is we hit the rev limiter in 3rd gear before he shifted into 4th on a residential street! How fast would that have been?

It was a real treat. However, Steve W gave me and my daughter's boyfriend a ride in a Mercedes that actually had MORE stunning acceleration than the F40. The acceleration "G forces" from the Mercedes were actually physically taxing.

F40 WAAAAAAY over a 959.

Ditto!!! Those cars are really beautiful!

I saw a 365 GTC on the road the other day on the way to work. Definitly looks like a car from the 70's, but it was pretty awe inspiring anyway, and still looks pretty good too. The exhaust made the floor of my '88 vibrate, and I'm guessing he was down below 3000 rpm (probably even lower) as we were only tooling along at about 50 in traffic on an interchange.

GIBSON 03-06-2004 09:10 AM

I might have said F40 until I had a chance to hand around
Bruce Canepa's shop and talk to the mechanics who are converting them. I saw about 14 959's there in various stages of
conversion. They are getting good Motronic software and
great turbo's. The guys that test drive them come back
with stupid grins on their faces that don't wash off. They took the bad stuff about 959's (turbo lag, lousy electronics/injection) and turned them into modern monsters. Wheels that actually work and take regular high-performance tires help as well.
959 anyday.

Victor 03-07-2004 02:00 AM

Wayne, why do you ask?

Selling bits for either?

Victor 03-07-2004 04:02 AM

"101 Projects for your F40"

"101 Projects for your 959"

What next?

"101 Projects for your Porschev" will probably sell better here... .... ... ...
