How to tell if you have broken head studs during a valve adjustment
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1078550945.jpg
These fall out or sit in the hole!! Mine today, outside # 1 and # 3 on exhaust side. Had mentally prepared for it, assuming I had some broken studs, so I'm not too bummed. Question: The nuts fell out separated from the studs (not screwed onto the stud). Only one stud came out, is it possible the other stud is still intact? I can't see into the hole, its behind the cat converter. Gordo BTW 1st valve adjustement went well. No more clacking, how nice. |
I had one of these loose nuts myself, and at first thought it was ok.....screw it back on and you will likely see you can thread it all the way on, and not actually be able to torque it down.....as if the head stud is pulled out a bit.....it is likely a pulled headstud...or in the process of being a pulled headstud....

Glad to hear the valve adjust went well. <grin> Bummer about the head stud, though. Have you read the most recent head-stud advice thread? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/149710-head-stud-brocken-now-what.html

Hey Don - you know what I just went through as a result of my broken 3 studs. PM here or on the NoVa board and I'll give you my home number if you want to talk it through.
