windshield base / door jamb rust

I have a 1970 911E, it seems to have the usual collection of surface rust such as the door edges, around the edges of the bumper, a couple bubbles in the door skin, and the rubber feet on the end of the hood. It also has some rust under the passenger side of the windshield at the top of the door jamb.

Is this anything to be alarmed by, I hadn't noticed any mention of this sort of rust on the board before.

On the plus side I'm pretty confident there is no pan rust, as I've hit the wheel wells with a screw driver and hammer, and the worse thing that resulted was I put a hole in the undercoating, which I'll just patch back up...

Here's a picture

I'd be alarmed.

many rust areas can be cleaned up decently.. then a quick
touch-up gun shoot. Touch-up guns are easy to learn.

Likely, the entire mounting flange for the fender is rusted -- both on the fender and on the tub. The marks at the rear edge indicate the fender has been off -- maybe several times -- already.

My suggestion: pull the fenders, wire brush the surfaces, POR 15, paint & reassemble.

Bubbles around the windshield seal can come from the outer surface of the metal or uinderneath. you can reach the underside of the panel with your hand & check. Upper surface rust, you can repair yourself. Rust from underneath is a much bigger issue.

I had a car from Massachusetts last year with slight bubbling near the windshield corner. Underneath was rough, but not significantly rusted. I repaired the surface and painted. problem solved.

I'd be cautiously alarmed. I ended up pulling the fenders off after I pulled the fender weatherstripping that the hood rests on......significant surface rust. I was worried mainly about the tub and so should you. There is much more you can't see. Get it fixed asap. Good luck.
