if you had to tip, what would you get?

assume a hypothetical situation where you *had* to get a non-stick car. What would be your choice given the typical budgets tossed about around here (ie a 996 turbo isn't an option). 964? 993? A Boxster (I think that was the first one with shift buttons on the steering wheel)?

996, I figure it's the only one that could make me forget I'm driving a Porsche, and if so why not make it the tip and complete the 'evolution'.

I have a friend who wants a new tiptronic turbo right now, (he has a 2001 tiptronic cab), I just don't understand it and told him so in so many words. I stopped by BH Porsche on my way home Friday to look at the one they have, ($160k sticker w/ X-50 package and not a penny off sticker), it's a beautiful car IMO but not really a 911 anymore, more like a big, really fast GT car like an Astin Martin or something.

I've never driven any of the choices. I would think the most powerful would be beneficial. However, the Boxster with wheel buttons seams inviting. The 996 with the more hp. Can I have an Enzo instead?

Took a 993 with steering wheel paddle shift, tiptronic out for a couple of hours. AWESOME car!

Wife loved it and I could see driving the **** out of it. If I ever buy a newer Porsche...which seems unlikely, it will be a paddle shift tiptronic. Also used it in a Audi TT test drive and it was just as much fun there.

Totally different experience than my 915 with the full WEVO add ons (which is better than most curent japanese gear boxes IMO) but I liked it none the less.

993, the culmination of air-cooled porsche technology. I run the Malibu Canyons with a bunch of 993 rennlisters and our lead car(tip cab) makes the 993tt's and GT3's work hard to keep up!

Audi S4. Test drove a 2000 a couple weeks ago. I'll be buying one this spring as my daily driver. Phenomenally fun car, even with the slushbox. Shifting buttons on the steering wheel are a nice touch.

If it was me, a 996 with tip. That's probably my next car. Just because my wife would be able to drive it too. Of course I'm keeping my other cars!

I drove a 964 tip in Hawaii once. Neat, but nothing to write home about, and I definatley missed rowing gears.

The auto clearly makes the most sense in a cruisin' car. Top-down showing off is more important than hard driving in a tiptronic car, so I'd pick a Boxster.
