Fishcop goes Duck Hunting...

I thought I'd share some photos of my transition to ducktail equipped...

This is the ducktail and rear bumper as I bought them (off a race car)

A lot of elbow grease and things are starting to move on...

The fun stuff... Lots of free icocyanate and lead (bad). The 2-pack paints sure are nice to use, but very bad for your health. Over spray everwhere in the garage, but it cleaned up no worries.

A bit of shiming here and there to get the gaps right (much larger than the factory lid).

The end result.... I'm pretty happy with my weekend's work

Cheers

Jack the new bumper replaces my metal 3 piece RS bumper, but you'll note the one I bought (sight unseen) is actually an RSR flared bumper... that was a story and a half. I made a mold of the flared ends of my metal RS bumper and then grafted the two RS ends I'd made in glass on to the RSR bumper (it probably would have been easier and cheaper to just buy an RS bumper, but I like a challenge).

Thanks Jim. I've been hesitant to put a ducktain on, but now I have one I can easily alternate between the two depending on my mood (like Jack does).

Ahh the colour of my car? Well it seems to vary... It is a slight variation on Arrow Blue (originally Ossi Blue) with a little extra cyan. The colour seems to really vary depending on light, flash photography and computer screens. You can see some of the difference by looking at the first photo in the post taken in the evening without a flash and the subsequent photos taken with a flash. You are right though, it is quite similar to Mexico blue, but in the flesh I think you'd find my car was a little darker.

Mark, thanks mate. These cars are a little bit like art in motion

Unfixed, thanks. The real hero is the paint, it is great to work with but you need to have the safety gear. Most chemical masks don't work so you need to use a positive pressure air supply. I used some modified scuba gear

You had better take it out to Morgan Park on the 27th, it looks fast.

A car like that should be doing every track day.

Hope to see you there.....

Very nice! Have you fitted the front S bumper yet??

Oh - and I especially like your racetrack leaning up there on the wall of the garage

John, what brand duck did you put on and how do like the quality / fit? I'm thinking about adding one on to our aubergine 73E (my wife isn't convinced ) and keep the option of switching between stock / duck engine lid.

Ash, yep, did the front spoiler a couple of years ago.

The board is out in garage as the wife won't let me back in the house with the scaletrix (I take up too much room, It's noisy, and my favourite... "It's embarrassing 'cause we don't even have kids!"). We're doing a little renovating and I am planning a billiard room, I figure the track could be lifted on and off a pool table. I have recently bought a few new cars including a GT3 and a 908 that I still haven't run.

Jim, I've got no idea of the brand as there are no marks on it and it was second-hand from a race car. The fit is pretty good, however the panel gaps are larger than the original metal one. My impression is that it is good quality as it has been molded with provision to bolt up the original catch rather than using straps.

I will take some better photos this week. Hopefully I have a track day at the end of the month and can get some good photos then.
