Unhappy Wet 85 911

I have jumped into this porsche stuff deep. I bought a "fresh water" 85 red 911 with 85,000 miles. The fresh water must have had a hint of salt because the electrical terminals all have a hint of green. The computer, relay, fuel pump, starter, and crank sensors got wet and have been replaced. Both fuse boxes, the dash and engine compartment electronics stayed dry. A few of the terminals on the DME and relay (the hot ones) are a little green and the main one in the relay was bad. I found some used DME and relay clips in a junk yard that should show up UPS tomorrow that I plan on soldering in this weekend. I did a temporary splice to get the DME and fuel pump power. The car won't crank. I am not getting a spark. I hooked up a noid light to a fuel injector and it stayed on steady instead of pulsing. A spark plug would not arc into a ground. I hope to fix all this when we solder in the new wires to the relay and DME. If this doesn't work, I have a mechanic buddy(not a porsche guy) to help me this weekend. He requested I get the pin map on the computer to help track any gremlins. Can someone post pin map and give me some leads to track my spark problem.

Thanks for diagram. Another related question. I looked for the ground that I hear is near the transmission (hoping it is something easy and obvious) but could not locate it. Where is it located?

There is a ground "ribbon" cable about 1" wide on the passenger side of the car, above the forward transmission mount carrier tucked up inside there. You need to get all the way under the car to find it...it is a little hidden.

Paul:

A couple of charts that might help.

If the replacement wiring you are getting is a whole DME harness, you might be better off installing that instead of trying to solder in wires and connectors. Replacing the DME connector may not be for the faint-of-heart.

If your not getting spark or fuel, it might be as simple as reversed sensor plugs (RPM and Position).

I found the ground under the transmission and it was relatively clean. I went ahead and unhooked it, scrubbed it, used contact spray and wd 40 and reconnected. No help. Tomorrow we are soldering the new relay connector and a few of the dme wires that are not in tip top shape. Wish us luck

Good news and bad news. My mechanic buddy had time today to work on the side and got the wiring fixed. The car started for the first time since the September flood. It idled great, ran great, no problem. Some gunk spit out of the exhaust at first. I was not present, but he said incredible amounts of smoke plumed out of the exhaust for quite awhile. It smoked up his entire neighborhood. He suspected water in the exhaust since the smoke was not blue. Does the forum think this is water in the exhaust? Could it be oil displaced from the engine into the exhaust? He is thinking taking off the exhaust to clean it. Any comments or suggestions welcome

Oil from the oil tank can seep back into the engine/cylinders during long term parking and therefore smoke quite a bit when fired up.
Water would make white smoke, oil would make blue smoke and too much fuel makes black smoke.

Thanks, Any other input on this massive amount of white smoke after a flood and subsequent 6 month parking.

I drove the car today for the first time! The smoke burned out of the exhaust system after 15 minutes of hard driving. It is running very very strong for a stock motor. I finally have my first 911 going. A little more TLC and this beast will be ready for everyday driving. (I hope)

I need to get the seats and carpet back in it and then I have about $400 of body work needed on the drivers door then I will get some pictures up. It is a red targa with black interior. The Fuchs are painted red and are in great shape. It has the faux rock gaurd sticker by the back wheels like the turbo and has the factory tail.
