85-86

After much thinking and reading, I'm thinking about getting an 85-86 Cararra. Preferably an 86 Turbo Look Carrera coupe.

Any suggestions, advice or warnings about these cars? How much should I pay for a nice example or 85-86 Carrera coupe or 86 Turbo Look?

Other than a possible early valve guide wear problem at around 60,000 miles the early (84-86) Carreras are pretty much bullet proof. I would think you could get a very well maintained 85-86 Carrera for between $15-18K with the turbo look running you $2-3K more.

Someone suggested that I do a longnose conversion to get the early look I love. I may just buy an 85-86 and do just that. I even like that idea better than buying an early car.

Doing that conversion is expensive. The fenders are easy, the back bumper isn't too bad, but the front hood support needs to be relocated which involves cutting and welding.

How much $$$ in parts, considering, I'd do all the work myself. Also, I'd have to start with a porsche that have the flares already. Did the Carrera come with flares?
