Help with engine i.d - Carreara 3.0 - Please
I have located an engine at a secondhand parts shop. The case stamping says 930/02 which I believe indicates a Carrera 3.0 and is what I am looking for, but the engine no. 6404993 makes no sense. Any ideas other than maybe a Carrera 3.0 with an incorrect number stamped into it for whatever reason? Does the Carrera 3.0 case have a different casting number to the later 3.0's that I can check out. The fuel injection, fan and alternator are gone but the motor has 3 pin CDI wiring and 2.7 type dizzy
rotation. Robert |

The Carrera 3.0 is either a 930/02 or a 930/12 (sportomatic).
The engine number should begin with 666 or 667 ('76 or '77) |

Thanks George. The case is definitely stamped 930/02 but as I say the engine number makes no sense - from what I can make out It does not relate to any 911 motor. Any idea what the casting number on the crankcase would be for a 930/02 case?

Wayne bought one at Pomona last year and posted about it in this thread. Maybe he can pop in and tell you what #s it has, or PM him.

Wayne does the 3.0 Carrera case have unique casting numbers to help identify it if the incorrect engine number has been stamped onto it?

The 930/02 was the engine type #, as George indicated the '76 C3 will have engine serial #s 666**** abd '77 C3 will have 667****
serial # 640**** is a '80 US/Can SC type # 930/07. Its very likely the same casting # on the c/c is as on the C3 The 3 pin and 2.7 dist rotation is puzzling Is it posssible that someone tried to use a C3 dist on a later SC engine? This sort of thing was popular at one time.

The engine may have been a replacement ... and stamped with the engine serial number it replaced. Does the engine serial number begin and end with the '*' character?
The CDI and distributor are consistent with C3 Type 930/02 engine. Both '76 and '77 C3 engines used 3-pin CDI units and point-type 2.7 distributor!

Warren - Definitely no"*" with the number. I'm pretty sure its been stamped on afterwards. Also flywheel is 6 bolt pattern. Does this mean the crank must be a 2.7 or earlier and therefore the case must be a C3?

Robert,
Definitely ... more evidence that the Carrera 3.0 engine is genuine, and wayne's 'FAVORITE' ... as it used the 2.7 style crank with six M12 flywheel bolts! Sounds like a winner to me!
