911 fuchs info

hoping for a little help..........

are ALL fuchs forged, specifically the 6/7x16"? i have a catalogue that references cast and forged.

at some point, were they forged and then cast (to save $$$)?

i would assume forged would be the more desirable of the 2 types. any help is appreciated,

mike

If it came from Porsche ..it's a semantics issue...all real Fuchs are forged.

BTW...nothing really wrong with a cast wheel. The problem with regard to cast Fuchs replicas is that the copies did not get thicker in certain critical areas to compensate for the loss of forged strength. Therefore, they're prone to fail. Other designs from other manufacturers can make perfectly good (strong) cast wheels..but the design assumes cast construction in the first place and critical areas are thicker to compensate...heavier, too.

I recently ran across a reference from a Porsche publication which incorrectly described a wheel as "cast", which was a typo. This was regarding the "later" 8X16 wheel part number, where Porsche was recommending it as a replacement for the earlier wheel number. I'm virtually positive all genuine Fuchs are forged.

thanks. i figured they were all forged; but the "cast" reference threw me off and the fact that part numbers have been superceeded (common) helped as well.

for example, earlier 6x16" wheels had the p# 911.361.020.43. newer ones are p# 911.362.113(.00). same for the 7x16" - 911.361.020.44, and newer 911.362.115(.00).

i thought the change in p# might have corresponded to the changed in manufacture as well.

are the "earlier" numbered wheels any better/more desirable than the later??????
