aircraft stripper question

Quick question. I have been working at stripping the front wheel wells of my racecar down to bare metal. I started with a grinder and 3m disks, but that started to take forever and my lungs were taking a beating. I decided to try aircraft stripper, which provided good results on the first wheelwhell area. I have started the other one now, but have to go at it a couple more times. My question is, how bad is it to leave the left over residue on there after scraping it off. Due to time restrictions I could not do as thorough as a job as I would have liked last night, so I scraped all the excess I could off (no paint scraps left) and sprayed the area with simple green and rinsed, hoping this would get rid of any left over residue. It looks ok, but I don't want anything to happen to my car (ie rust) between now and the next time i get back to work on it. IT is not down to bare metal yet. Would it be advisable to try to get it all stripped before I leave town for a week, or let it be and address it when i get back?

Why don't you wait until you can start and finish one wheel well at a time.

Since it is the wheel well area you are dealing with the rubber(body Schultz) undercoating right. The stripper will get at the primer and lift a little of the body schultz around its edges.Paint stripper will not work on the Body schultz. I posted a thread on using a heat gun and razor blade paint scraper a month or two ago. It made removing the body schultz real easy less mess. You still will need to use the stripper to remove the primer and any small rsidue of body schultz. I have left the stripper on overnight and it dried out. I just recoated theareas that still hand paint and primer. I used a good cleaner and steel wool to wash and neutralize the stripper.

Ultimate undercoating scraper (cheap jeri-rig)

A coarse rotary cup wire wheel will finish this job regardless of where you leave off.

In regards to comments-

I'm really busy now and have to work on the car a little at a time in order to get it done by spring. Larry, the car has been a race car since 1972 and does not have any body schutz. I'm going to try the wire brush idea and see how that works.

Vintage 914,
I used the aircraft stripper in restoring a 72 Pantera, especially in the engine bay and undercarriage. I had no problems with leaving it on for a few days. Maybe it's easier and less messy to let it completely dry. That stuff will burn like heck on your skin. Go for it!!
