Hey…I have the opportunity to have my Targa in a movie shoot. Anybody had any experience with this? Should I do it? If so what should I ask or look out for?

My car was on 3 episodes of Friends. They were still shots on a blue screen, and it was great. The crew was very respectful of the car. Although David Scwimmer jumped on my fender for a shot, and when I got the car back the paint was cracked. Warner Bros. repaired it with no questions. If it is a big film company you should have no problems, however a real low budget group I would advise caution, and would suggest that you attend the filming. With TV anyway, they will replace the windshield with a special version that is designed for filming. They of course will reinstall the original glass, and no leaks so far. My car is a Targa and they removed the window frames for the in-car shots, so the actor/actress was not blocked by it. All the work when they put it back together was fine. All the windows lined up just as poorly as when they started. LOL. Seriously the work was good, and I have no complaints. The security at the sound stage was excellent, I walked up to the car at the end of the shooting and was attacked by security, until they were told that I was the owner. I then thanked the 2 serurity guard for looking out for my baby. It's fun owning an (in)famous car. Good luck!

Is this a horror flick starring Udo Kier and Adam Baldwin? I was solicited for the shoot but passed.
There's very little upside to letting a film company have your car.

I know a guy whose car was in 'Old School' at the end credits going over a bridge... I think he sold it for a fair value.
Big studio productions will give you some bucks and gnerally give your car back in undamaged condition. But it's all done through subcontractors. I once heard of a Speedster crashed by a crew member on the evening of the first day of the shoot -- the car handling company got body guys to work overnight & fix it, so nobody on the shoot knew the next day, and the owner took the car back knowing nothing, as well. If you have the time to be there & watch, it might be fun, but that's about the only upside. (Or if in Jeremy's situation, you end up with Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox or an equivalent occupant in the car for the shoot, that's potential bragging rights.)

Jeremy...I'm glad to hear your experience went well. I guess I'll say OK for now. This is to be a major release production. The scenes will include a shot where the car pulls up to a mansion and the actors step out and several background shots. I don't know if this is a sure deal yet. Although model and color are right the produces want they may want a newer model.
![]() Stay tuned...

The Ferrari 288 GTO I sold at the concourse show in Dallas in 95, was used in several spots, movies, mags. even bilboards. I never left it though. Maybe Wayne knows what one of these are. But a car like that you don't leave unless basically, they have bought it.

My 912 just appeared in the recent TV movie Behind the Cameras: The Charlie's Angels Story. They had the car for 3 days and didn't even run it! The actress couldn't drive a standard so the crew just pushed the car for the "action" scene. The car ended up on screen for 15 seconds at the very end of the show but I still enjoyed watching the process.

never hear that term anywhere.. although over here ... a stick is indeed standard... i think only 2-3% of cars here in europe is automatic.
it might be a bit more with cab drivers and big limo's like big mercs and beamers... but still automatics are rare over here for normal people.

You're lucky. With every new model, the manual transmission is getting rarer and rarer. On most new cars, the automatic is now the "standard" transmission with a tiptronic-style automatic being the option. It'll be a sad day when all cars shift for themselves...
