CV Joint Circlip: Source locally or must use OEM part?

Is it something special or can I source one locally where circlips are sold?

It doesn't make sense to place a parts order for $3 worth of parts that I may be able to source locally.

I don't want to compromise my CV joint rebuild but at the same time if I can pick up four circlips at home depot then I will.

I doubt that Home Depot would have the correct size, but if they do, fine.

I have used the circlips from Metric & Multistandard since1979 with no problems ...

You might try a local fastener store or bearing & seal supply ... take one of the old ones along for measurement.

related query -- Can you remove the CV joint from the half shaft with the sfat still in the car? (the engine & trans are out). If so, do I need a puller? Or is it a slip fit after the circlip is removed? Thanks.

Slip fit over the splines. Just remove the circlip and it should slide off. Mine did. Some have noted that they are tough to get off sometimes. Since the trans end of the axles are unbolted you might as well take off the wheel end and pull the CV's on the workbench rather than while under the car..
