Pomona
Hello,
has someone been in Pomona this year? I'm planning to go there on summer, is it worth the pain? I'm planning to search for a 1965 911 or a 1969 912, are there good deals? I'll be glad to hear you opinions. Josep 1968 911L soft window targa

Pomona is no longer Porsche friendly. It's been overrun by the VW guys. I would try to go to the German Auto Fest instead.

I know, but I just love early Porsche. I would love a 65 911.

If you're lucky, you might find some dual port heads for a 1600 VW engine.

as I only live about five minutes from pomona and after having been to everyone for the last four years I'd say that if you have never been then it's worth going, even though the amount of porsche cars and parts is not what it used to be, the internet has taken it's toll on most of the large swapmeets, when you consider that you can put up a for sale ad on this site for free or put your stuff up on e-bay why would a person want to drive in some cases hundreds of miles pay fourty five dollars for a selling spot when you could take a few pic's of your items and sell them from the comfort of your home, and in many cases people get far more money for things because the buyers can't physically inspect them, unfortunately I like many others have bought things that when I recived them were not quite as nice as I would have excepted based on the pictures, being able to pick something up and take a close look at it is an advantage to the buyer not the seller, and many people have taken great advantage of this, after all how many times have you talked to someone about something and they said " O'h it's in great shape " and you went to look at it and it's a POS, and then keep in mind the people that make a living on buying and reselling cars and parts some parts change hands two or three times in one morning it just depends on who gets there first, and getting there early is not always a guarantee that you will find a prize, even though the swapmeet opens to the public at 5:am some sellers don't show up till much later I've found things at 9:00am just because the guy over slept, it is disapointing to leave empty handed and gone are the days of buying loads of hard to find stuff for cheap, but hey what else do I have to do at 4AM on a sunday morning with a flashlight.

So, seems that is not a good idea, no?
I don't like the idea of buying a car in eBay, I would like to be in a place where I can have many pre73 choices and see the cars in person. Any other suggerences? Josep 1968 911L soft window targa

But, you never know what will show up at Pomona. There are still lots of folks who don't do Internet. However, there might be 2-3 early cars worth looking at and there might be none. There won't be several at any one time these days. And why pre '73? Don't you like the '73? |

There must be a shortage of early 911s in Spain.
Isn't that where you're coming from? And does that mean if you find one you like you'll be taking it with you? Or am I mistaken. Either way, I wish you luck in your endeavor. ![]() |

You will rarely see more than 3-4 pre *74* 911s for sale at Pomona. If that's worth $13 and a massive amount of walking, driving and waiting, cool.
80% of the time, you see cars that are advertised in the Auto Trader or online. So the advantage isn't very big. I go once or twice a year. AppBiz is usually there, Einmalig sometimes shows; MS Road and Race is there frequently... If you go expecting nothing, and are open to looking at massive numbers of vintage cars, hot rods and Corvettes, I agree with SWBSAM, you'll have fun, once.

Been to Pomona a lot....Most of the sellers are dreamers and they go to the show and put crazy pricing on their cars, hoping some exporter will come and buy it and ship it overseas. I have never found a great deal there and you can do better in autotrader or recycler. If you are looking for parts, they do have an ok selection there. I would save the $15 bux (parking and admission) for gas to go to Germanfest.
Just my 2 cents.................

everyone in Europe here's that California cars are rust free and that there are more early Porsche's in California than anywhere in the world, well....maybe fifteen years ago that was true, the problem is that for years now people have been coming over and buying cars and shipping them all over the world the dollar has been very weak for some time now and this makes it even more of a bargain, and early cars bring big money in Europe and other parts of the world, I'm sure you know this, there are people looking day and night for clean unmolested 911's and 912's a friend of mine put an ad up to sell his 70S and in one hour he had twenty five e-mails and he sold the car for full price to the first guy who contacted him and had a bank check FedEx to him the next day. information moves at the speed of light today, tell someone you want to think about it and it's gone, many of the early cars that I have seen for sale are junk, most of them wind up on e-bay and some of these sellers are down right dishonest, not that I'm in the market for another car but since I like to keep my finger on the pulse I have gone and looked at a few cars that were on e-bay in the local area and let me tell you one of the sellers was a small wrecking yard and the car looked brand new in the pictures but when I went to see it he had put a cheap paint job on it and the car was a rust bucket, another one I looked at had a nice paint job but underneath was a total nightmare, if you plan on coming over here to find a car you need to get hooked up with someone who can find you a good car for a fair price that way when you get here the car is ready to go and you can spend your time enjoying yourself, because unless your planning to stay for a month or two who knows how long it could take to find the right car . this was my friends 70S ![]() this is my 67S that I've spent the last four years restoring and you don't want to know how much I've spent ( or should I say I don't want my wife to know how much I've spent ) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Hello,
Zeke: I love 1965 to 69 cars specially, I love originality over any power or handling capabilities. That's why one 912 is also in my wanted list. Steve79SC : Yes, it's very difficult to find an early 911 or 912 in Spain, nearly impossible. swbsam: Ok I'm thinking about it, maybe I will try to stay for 20 days and make some visits while touring California (my wife ...) or I will plan the travel during germanautofest Thanks Josep 1968 911L soft window targa
