Looking to get into it with my doors!

Newbie here looking for some good insight. I am having some trouble with both power windows and door latches in my 76 Carrera 3.0. The windows are very slow and seem to get a little cock-eyed on thier way up, and the latches are very stiff on close, open just fine. I have been told that I should take the door apart, replace the window felt, and clean/lube both assemblies. My questions are:
1. What will this job entail?
2. What should I clean the parts with?
3. What kind of grease/lube should I use?
4. What should I be careful of?

If anyone has performed the same sort of repair I would love to hear your advice or story. I would like to be prepared for this job because I don't get a lot of time with my baby and want to make it worthwhile. =)

Thanks

When I got mine the passenger window went "cockeye", was slow....I took the door panels off (takes about 5 min), the window regulator where the glass sits...completely rusted. So, short answer....take the door panels off and see what you've got.

And how did you end up fixing it?

Not a hard fix. The metal piece that holds the glass was completely rusted out. Whenever the the window moved up or down, the position of the glass changed because there was nothing holding it in place. I didn't have to replace the entire regulator, just that part. I bought a replacement from an auto dismantler ($25 I think) and bingo...a working window. Now, it did take a bit to get the motor out of the door and back in again...but not hard, just patience.

The door panel should be held on with just a few screws, once off you will be able to see what the problem is.

Thanks for the great advice! Anyone else...? Maybe some experience with the locking mechanism?
