took the turbo on the freeway, woo hoo!

I decided to take the turbocharged SC out today for the first real shakedown test.
After putting around to get the temperature up to normal I decided to jump on the freeway. The car feels exactly like it did before except the exhaust note is different, that is until I get into the throttle hard.
I got just a little twitch from the rear in third gear as the boost hit (6 psi) on the onramp, 4th gear was amazing. My legs were shaking just a bit as I hit 5th gear.
This thing is sooooo different with boost. There are lots of faster cars out there but very few faster SCs.
I'm not even sure if I need to crank it up any more than it is now.

I still have some more tinkering to do like hook up an air/fuel ratio meter etc but I'm very happy with it as is.

Congrats Sam! I'd keep that boost where it is for now. Once you get use to it you can decide to throw the dice or not. An A/F meter will be a great tool for that decision.

Hard to say 'zackly when boost hits but the needle goes positive at 3500 rpm give or take a few, wastegate opens up and boost levels at around 3700 or 3800.
Imagine the power curve of a stock 911SC. It starts out mellow and then hits hard at around 4 grand. not take that same curve and have it hit about 500 rpm sooner and with twice the aggressiveness. Oh, it also pulls much longer than the stock motor. I haven't found out how high yet but it definitely doesn't start to fall off at 6k.

The dump pipe for the wastegate was designed to go through a cute lil muffler, but mine don't do that no more. it goes directly to the great outdoors and makes kind of a cool sound when it opens. not loud enough to be annoying to anyone around (any more than the regular exhaust ) but it has a nice growl to it.

I plan to redesign the muffler system down the road and that should help the boost kick in a little lower.

That's cool to hear. Glad it is working for you.
It is difficult to get folks to not think of boost threshold as "lag". Think of it as "MORE".

One of my first 930 mods was a straight (non-muffled) dump pipe. The noise is like a jet engine/ripping noise.... blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssss...... so cool.

If you think 6 PSI is fun you should try 14.

It sure does eat up rear tires though but also hones your skills at keeping a small squirly car on track.

LOL no thanks on the 14 psi boost, with my engine it would last about 2 seconds

I'm running a stock 3.0 liter with CIS cams and 9.3 to one compression.
Doubt it would like 14 psi without bucket-fulls of modifications (and money)
I figure somewhere around 9 or 10 to be the safe ceiling with this engine and even that will take some modifications to the Injection system and a really good intercooler.
