Question Whale tail for 993?

Hey all
You have a great site here! Wish I had found it sooner.
Anyways, I was just curious, does anyone have some pics (or a link to pics) of a 993 with a whale-tail on it?
Just wondering how it would look, I hear it's pretty nice.
Thanks!

MacChef,

Welcome

The term "whale tail" is a name for the tail on the 80's Porsche 930. If you have a 993 TT, you already have a tail, of course. If you're looking for something larger, check some of the companies that make glass and carbon tails:

http://theracersgroup.com
http://www.gt-racing.com

You should get some good pics there. Good luck!

Small correction. The whale tail was the tail used on Carreras, not Turbo's. 80's Turbo's used the "tea-tray" style tail that allows room for an intercooler.

Here's a whale tail (and I'd be interested to see how it looks on a stock 993 also):

Ruf used to put tea-tray spoilers on 993 CTRs. They actually looked really good!

Thanks for the replies guys, and thanks for the links motion, I'll def check those out.

Ok, so looks I've been misinformed...hmmm
I was under the impressions a "whale-tail" was more of a rectangular shape.

I found this picture:

EDIT: (guess they don't allow that! Here is a link, you'll have to copy-paste in a new window)

This looks like some sort of GT2 tail, but obviosuly I'm no expert. =)

you will probably find something similar from one of the aftermarket companies motion mentions.

MadChef, here's a pic of a yellow 993 with a turbo tail.

Here's another 1995 993 RS with a tail. It's not a turbo tail though.

The silver 993 that par911 posted a pic of has a "RS tail", as found on factory 993RS's. btw, the factory RS had similar looking wheels, and front air dam/splitter as this silver one. Conspicuously missing are the RS side skirts on this silver car, so makes me think this is not a real RS, but a RS look conversion. Hot, nonetheless.

Check out Rennlist.com The 993 forum/board is very active/informative, and a quick search should produce some awesome tails on 993's.
