Electrical problems - Gauges

Hi all,

I'm not that good at car electrics (having mayor troubles reading the wiring diagrams )...

The thing is that none of the lights in my gauges (speedo, clock etc) works. The gauges works, the warning lights work and the bulbs for the light works, but they don't want to light...) I bought the car in September and have had it stored since then (more or less anyway). I'm pretty sure they worked when I bought the car, but now everything is black. As far as I can see it is the same fuse for everything (no. 1) and it is fine... Any idéas?

/Christian

(Sorry about the poor english...)

Probably your ground is poor. Look under the dash to the left of the radio near the fresh air ciontrol for several brown wires. One should come from the gauges. Unplug it and try cleaning up the connection. You can test it by touching the connector to a better chassis ground.

Thanks...

I've been looking for problems with the ground, but no luck so far... Wouldn't a poor ground also affect the warning lights? The lights for low fuel, alternator, handbrake etc works just fine...

Anyway, I'll keep looking...

My friend...you are correct. I did not read your post carefully enough.
Does your ashtray light work?
I assume that your headlights work, so you must have power to the light switch, so your problem is most likely a bad rheostat in the switch or between the switch and the gauges. First check for a broken wire where it connects to the light switch. The power goes from the light switch through the bulkhead into the front luggage compartment via a 6-pin connector and then to the backs of the gauges. I believe the wires are black/blue.

I might have found the problem...

According the wiring-diagram there should be a black/blue cable from the lightswitch. When reaching in behind the knee-pad I found a loose cable that is black/blue. Now I just have to find out how to get access to the lightswitch.

I guess I have to remove the knee-pad? How do I do that?? After that I also need to remove the light-switch. How to I remove the chromed ring that I guess holds it in place?

Thanks in advance!
