I'll take a stab: 275 rwhp.

I snagged my BAE kit for $1000 in the recycler www.recycler.com

It was complete except for one oil line and came with a freshly rebuilt turbo. Since then I've spent a couple hundred on misc. parts like boost gauge, air/fuel ratio gauge, hoses, etc.
By the time I get it all hooked up with an intercooler and supplimental fuel supply I'll be in the 9 psi range with at least 300 hp, maybe more.
My estimated cost for all that should be around $2000 but I'm a very thrifty shopper and DIY everything.

Sure I got lucky, but I've seen the BAE kits around for $700 or so, you just need to keep your eyes open. There was one listed in the pelican classifieds less than a year ago but I think it needed a turbo rebuild ($350 at turbo city).

"The difference between 300hp and 350hp is much more than 50hp."

Ok, so I can go for 300hp and add fiberglass bumpers, tail and hood will that be enough weight loss to make up for the extra 50 hp. I planned on the fiberglass upgrades anyway.

I have a friend with a muffler shop who let me use one of his bays to install the B&B exhaust. Can I use some of the 930 exhaust parts like crossovers and turbo mount (with his help) and still keep my B&B?

"There are many a 930 garage with complete CIS and exhaust systems packed away in boxes."

What would you do, find a complete used 930 system and bolt it on or try to piece it together? I plan on doing most of the work, but I don't want it to turn into a "project" I need to do it all in a few days

If the cost goes much over $3000 the Knoxviile SC Paxton kit looks real simple (I just got their info in the mail) @ $4795.

I would rather spend the extra on lightweight parts.

Thanks for all the help!

Wow, need to do it all in few days?
Scary. No modifications on these cars are as easy or fast as they should be, and adding a turbo is the prime example. Bolting it all together would only take a few days, getting the bugs out could take much longer.

If time is a higher priority than money do the SOK supercharger.
For me time isn't an issue but money is. This car is a weekend toy for me and not my primary means of transportation so I can tinker all I want. If I don't finish I get back to it in a few days.

Well I do have 7 cars right now so it could be down for a while, but I love to drive it!

What I really want is everthing I'm going to need at hand when I start, and I don't have near enough info. yet. I hope you guys don't get tired of my endless questions.

Money is always an issue for me but time is also!

Thanks Randy

Thanks to everyone who gave me advice!

I sold my car about a hour ago! Now i'm looking for a 930. I'll start a new thread as I want advice on what years would be best with my small budget ($25000 or less).

Thanks again, Randy

iamchappy 03-31-2004 06:17 PM

Good luck Randy in your search for a 930, pick out a nice one.

Lensart 04-01-2004 06:33 AM

Well I'm back where I started. I sold the car to a guy I know andhis wife hit the roof! I like both of them so I let him off the hook. I now have my car back, I'm not that upset as I had mixed feelings about it anyway.

What was nostatic thinking, trying to buy another 911? ;)

Lensart 04-02-2004 05:24 AM

I found this on Ebay...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=33742&item=24 70525735&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBWA%3AIT

would this work on my SC, what else would be needed, and is the price right?

Thanks Randy

sammyg2 04-02-2004 05:48 AM

That would get you pretty close to being done.
The CIS on that kit is designed for a larger displacement and lower compression than your existing engine but it shouldn't be that hard to dial in.
If everything in that picture is in proper working order i would say that price is a decent deal but it could go much higher. The turbo is worth almost $2000 by itself.
If i were serious about it I would get some kind of confirmation from the seller that everything works in writing, then excersise the the buy it now option before someone else tries to outbid you. This kind of auction rarely comes along, you can't wait for the next one, it could be years.

Wanna post a link for those??

sammyg2 04-02-2004 10:27 AM

I guess I've been looking in the wrong places, the ones I've seen are between $1700 and $1900.
I gotta be more careful where I look :)
maybe what I was seeing was a hybrid or custom turbo or something.

turbo6bar 04-02-2004 04:28 PM

Imagine Auto has the K27s for $890 to $1295, depending on the style (7200, 7006, or Highflow).

Regarding the turbo setup on Ebay, I recall those parts auctioned for around $1000 a couple months ago. You will need a scavange pump to run those parts. You'll also need to fit adapter blocks or port the injector blocks to match the SC heads. And don't forget the need for a turbo tail or custom work.

I paused my turbo project so I can refresh the suspension.

Yep, that's the one. Never moved off of 1K, IIRC.
