WOW..........
SIngle best thing this board/community has done indeed! Theres a side to this that hasn't been touched upon, and that's the angle that Jane has had this thing that was going to be a "headache" in her garage turn into an experience that introduced her to all sorts of nice folk. I am sure this one act will be a life altering experience for her and her kids. |
Status report
Hi all,
progress is a little slow now that winter is here. My garage (barn?) has no heat. The windshield is in, but I'm going to do it again as I'm not satisfied with the trim. The carpets are about to be ordered and the interior needs to be checked and installed along with the rear window. It runs well but has some starting issues when it's cold, but we'll work that out. Here are a couple of recent pics with the car in my driveway while I arrange storage. Wow, that looks fantastic. Great work gentlemen!
|
I know you didn't do it for 'recognition', but you guys who have done the work should be commended...EXCELLENT job! I'm sure Barry is even more proud of his car now...
|
Anything new here, or is it going to be in hibernation for the winter?

You guys have to be highly commended for your excellent work and volunteering your time. Its the spirit you guys personify which make this BB shine.

I just stumbled on to this thread. I must have been living in a cave or somthing.
I have been involved with Porsches and Porsche people since I can remember (my dad ruined me when I was young). I always knew that the porsche community was a special breed. You can see it at the race track, auotcrosses and everywhere else Porsches and there owners assemble. There are always people ready to lend a helping hand. We all log onto this board daily, or when we can, and find little bits of information that will help us with our projects or our daily drivers. There is always someone here (most of the time) that can help us when we are stuck. This effort though is unparalleled. All involved should be commended and know that there will be an angel (Ex-firefighter) that will have there back. I know that I will drive home and hug and kiss the wife and kids a little longer today. Cheers to all. |
Yes, the project is in semi - hibernation. The carpets and other bits are on order and on warm? days I will do a little on it in the garage. It's a little "tight" in the garage with 11 vehicles and miscellaneous "stuff" but there will be more room in the spring.
Weather changed from snow to fog to rain to snow in the last 24 hours with temps from mid 20's to 50 to a predicted 5 or 10 tonight. Winter is here! Ed B |
Hey Ed,
If you ever need garage space for a couple of days let me know. We can roll something out for a bit. You know where to find me. |
I can't speak for the others on this board, but I feel I am not worthy of the privelage of being associated with you folks doing this work.
Thank all of you. You make the world a better place. |
I was wondering if the spring thaw has hit the northlands yet :-) Looking forward to reading an up date.

Update
The project is proceding. The snow is almost gone! Lots of cold, rainy weather though. I'm still installing the carpets. Contact cement doesn't like cold temps and takes forever to dry. The new, "safe" water-based stuff is terrible and doesn't stick well. 3M spray adhesive is good but I don't like to use it around the new paint and aleady installed carpet.
There are some pics in the thread "Barry Bennett's car- update" Try http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/163271-barry-bennets-car-update.html I'm off to glue some more carpet! Ed B SmileWavy |

Update
Hi all,
While Damon is off doing "One lap of America" in a Radical SR3 I've been sniffing glue. A few pics attached. There are miscellaneous small bits missing. I"m working up a list that I'll post in a few days. Example: Plastic clips that attach door panels to door, 3+, plastic cap to cover head of seat belt bolt. ( I'll look up the p/n's later) and who knows what else I might discover. Seats go in Sunday. We have a car control clinic tomorrow, in the rain. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1115425125.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1115425244.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1115425280.jpg SmileWavy |

Looks FANTASTIC

Hi all,
A few more pics. I got some almost new trunk carpet, so that's done. I'm still having fun identifying bits and pieces. (Thanks Damon.) We need a few pieces. Anyone have the following? 911 531 563 01 clip (plastic clip that holds the interior door latch link) (1) 901 555 419 50 cover strip (note that they are missing in the pics. Covers edge of carpet at sill) (2 needed) Black plastic beading on the front edge of the door panel. Left door panel only. I assume Jane has the speakers and covers. Lots of little details left. If you're bored and in the area, stop in. Hey guys-
Just got in and saw this update and I just have to add, and I'm sure I'm not the first to say this, nor the last, that this is a most fantastic thing done by the Pelican community. Some of us, like me, aren't local, and our contribution has been limited to funds, others, who are more local, took the bull by the horns and made the it happen. And what a difference you guys have made! Your expertise, your talent, and your plain old hard work, have created a gem in the face of tragedy. Thankyou. When it comes to unseen pure efforts, you guys are the definition............. What a great community. There are no losers in this deal. You've turned a really tragic situation and made it a phenominal example of how the internet community can do meaningful real world good. Thanks........ |
holy crap! i hope and pray there is some $ leftover for alot of beer. maybe some dinner.
|
Anything new?
|
Kudos to you boys. While many of us have contributed financially, it is great to see so many members here with that kind of talent. I know that Jane will always look at that car and beam with pride when thinking about those guys her husband would spend too much time with online.
I'm glad to be part of this unbelievable mass effort. Regards, |
June 11 update
Hi all,
Friday PM Damon, John and I attacked the rear window and trim. So far, the window is winning. Its been in and out at lease 3 times trying to get the trim right. Another attempt tomorrow or Monday. No wonder Porsche stopped making Targas. I finally passed the CIS test. A crimped fuel return line hidden inside a sheath was the starting problem. Started it and got rid of all the mosquitos with in a hundred yards. Thought I had screwed up the engine. The muffler had a pint? of oil in it. Burned it out with an acetylene torch. Problem solved except for mosquitos. Continuing education I guess. There are still some small upholstery issues. I need the black plastic beading for the front edge of the left door panel. I have to install the speakers in the doors and glue some loose pieces on the Targa top. New tires and some cleaning and it will be close to done. I'm still looking for a small 11 blade fan or a large fan housing. (I have a large 11 blade fan). And maybe an external oil cooler system. There is a photo of Jane on the NCR-PCA web site getting a "Taste of the track" in the red run group on 5/28/05 at NHIS in the DE section. Ed B SmileWavy |
what parts do you guys still need?

I am assembling a scrap book of photos and restoration memorabilia for Jane and her coffee table. I would like to take some of your comments on this BBS and appropriately include in her scrap book. She is very interested in all of you who have contributed resources and more. Could you please email me at cwlovell@comcast.net if you DO NOT want part or all of your post included in Jane's scrap book?
Thanks, Chris L |
You guys are amazing!

Need 11 blade fan
Hi guys,
We are still looking for an 11 blade fan for Jane's car (1976 2.7L). According to Ed the fan it has now measures 226mm. You don't need to donate that fan (but of course that would be nice too) but help locating one for sale would be appreciated. We currently have a 245mm fan that was donated that we could trade. Ed and I could use an education on fan updating as well i.e. What year fan(s) would fit this motor? Are there pully issues we need to be aware of? -Chris |
Need external oil cooler setup
Jane will likely be doing some track events so we really need to add an external cooler without breaking the bank. Any leads on a setup or parts for adding and external cooler would be appreciated. We need the lines, the thermostat and the cooler.
thanks, Chris |
I most likely have a fan I can donate. I can check this weekend to make sure. I have either 2 or 3. I am using one on my 3 liter the others are in my garage somewhere.
Let me know if you still need it and I'll look for it this weekend. JZ |
Wow - not just a car - but a race car now - you guys are going above and beyond...

It's a 2.7 so it doesn't have an external cooler. -Chris |
Chris,
Good to see you about. Rick |
