Angry 964 C2 gone and forgotten

Up until yesterday I had the misfortune of owning 2 overpriced over rated Porsche automobiles. I traded my 964 Cab in on a 2004 Cobra Mustang. (please read my post on Rennlist)

Buy the Kenne Bell Blowzilla, 600rwhp will make you forget in a real hurry. But anyway, what color, post pics, the new Cobras are cool and have an independant rear suspension.

No flames necessary.

Sometimes people have bad experiences with used Porsches.

Good luck with the Mustang. An acquaintance of mine is on his 4th! third member. Aparently it's a known defect, but Ford won't admit it. I smell Class Action...

Larry, it is your money and your choice. Whatever makes you happy. As for me, I kind of like the challenge of wrenching on my P-car. Your Mustang should be quick as hell!

Good luck, David

Well at least you still have your M491.

Good luck with the Mustang. Post a pic, I'd like to see the new body style.

I sold Fords back in 99. We were an SVT dealer and had a bunch of Cobras. Fun cars, but I wouldn't suggest driving one in the rain. Man are those things squirly in water. Too much power and not enough traction back there. Hopefully the indi suspention is better suited for it.

Steve and David,
Thanks for the positive replies. Yes, I still have my M491 and I have a long list if thing I will do when the budget permits. The last straw on my 964 was when the electric top broke. I simply cannot afford to keep two mistresses. David, the Mustang is very fast and under warranty for the next 3 years!!

OK, I understand that you are/were quite irritated over those P-cars but wouldn't it be better if you shared your (presumably bad?) expiriences with us or provided a link to your story on Rennlist, so we can avoid pie throwing...

I bought a new 93GT once. My first and last Ford product. Don't know about the Cobra but the GT must set the record for depreciation. It might have been that 93 was the last year of that old tired body style but I couldn't give that thing away...and it was like new when I sold it. I also second the comment about driving in the rain.
Oh, I don't think it was until 94 that mustangs got an independant rear suspension. I think they also had rear drum brakes up to 93.

Sorry you had a bad experience, glad you've gone to something that makes you happy, have a nice day.

Oh, and don't let the door hit you in the azz on the way out...

What's the point of the original post. Sure people have bad experiences, and yes, it's great that he moved on to something that he likes, but who cares. I could maybe see the point in posting something like this on a Mustang board, but not here.

Oh, and BTW, yes, some cars are lemons, and you can have bad luck, but two bad experiences sound to me more like someone didn't know what they were getting into or didn't educate themselves before getting into a Porsche. Or maybe he's just not very good at picking out used cars or didn't get a good PPI done or something, who knows. And heck despite all of that it's still possible to get a lemon.

Yep, he may have fewer problems with his Mustang, but it's new, I would certainly hope that a new car would have fewer problems than a 10 or 15 year old used car, but it's very possible that he could end up having more problems with this new mustang. At least his new problems will be cheaper, and hopefully we won't have to listen to them.

Hmm, I don't think mustangs have had IRS until relatively recently. Do they all have it now? I want to say that only the Cobra has IRS even today, but I don't really keep up that well.

Except for a few paint chips the car is a strong 8, maybe 9. The PO was a female who was transferred to Pennsylvania and didn't trust the convertible top in the weather back there.

I won't bore you with my positive impression of the car-but I love it.

Now I've added insult to injury, in addition to financial ruin trying to keep the 85 and this one in top shape.

Thanks for listening

Apparently you are a serial car trader? The SVT cobra is a quick car - and sounds great. Good luck with your purchase. I personally would think it's a step down to go from a 964 rag top to a brand new SVT Cobra - even if the Cobra won all the stop light drag races. That is why you posted, right? To get a response...

Pretty sure it's still just a cobra thing. I read somewhere that they are going to keep the solid rear axle around because they're better for straight line launches. Guess we know where the priorities are for mustangs...

ONLY '99+ Cobras have Independant rear suspension. All GTs, V6s and Mach 1s have the solid-axle still.

And your point being?

So you bought a 10 year old Porsche, and have a 19 year old Porsche, and you're complaining becuase they aren't as trouble-free as a Honda or new car? I believe Kubrick made a film about this right before he died: "Eyes Wide Shut".

Man enjoy the Mustang, I sold an extremely fast 95 GT to buy my 86 cab. I really enjoyed the Mustang and will most likely have another one someday.

You can get insane power for not that much $$ (the benefits of an American made V-8). It won't handle like a 911, but then again that was not its target audience, just like a 911 was not built to rip up the dragstrip...

Very different cars, that both have positives and negatives.

Geeze, to each his own, but I could NEVER keep a Mustang in my garage, fast as it may be. The seats on those things are made for contortionists and the build quality...well, good luck anyway.

EDIT - Curiousity got the best of me...here's Larry's Rennlist post
http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=123915
Larry, I must say that I can't relate to a single price you cite in your post. Well, maybe the rebuild if you give it to a high-end shop. But $60 relays? $600 torsion bars?

Up until yesterday I had the misfortune of owning 2 money pit Porsche automobiles . I traded my 94 C2 Cab in on a 2004 SVT Cobra Mustang.

I have read every post on this web site and those on Pelican as well. I have had it with these over rated, overpriced toys. Parts made of unobtainium exotic metal that cost 4 times what they are worth. $10,000 engine rebuilds, $100.00 oil changes, $60.00 relays that cost $3.00 to make, $700.00 oil lines, $600.00 torsion bars, etc, etc.

Crooked and incompetent alleged mechanics who are rude and overcharge you, or break something in attempting to fix another issue, and then deny the fact.

My exact sentiment, I didn't whine about my sloppy ass Mustang on some Ford forum, perhaps you should find a Mustang forum to voice your opinions. If you hadn't noticed this is a 911 enthusiast board, so I doubt you'll get much sympathy or whatever your looking for here. I'm sure you'll fit right in with the NASCAR fans.
