I have an '83 SC euro, and up until about a year ago all was well with the car. Well, stuff started going out, WUR here, fuel accumulator there, thermal switch here, cold start valve there. Anyway, I bought some parts, some worked, others didn't. I tried to source some of the problems, half the diagrams don't make any sense, my car seems to be missing some stuff that the north-american cars have. Anyway, I'm fed up with trying to mickey mouse this thing into working properly, and driving enjoyment is nil right now since the car starts to go ape-***** pinging wildly after 4,000rpm, it doesn't idle worth a damn and has major major hesitation when cold. I'm willing to spend up to $1,000-1500 to get this thing working properly without issue and retaining the fuel injection.
Things I'm considering: Converting to U.S. spec CIS Converting to Carrera 3.2 Motronic Converting to pre-911SC MFI (don't have any clue about this one, just know that according to the afficionados it has the finest throttle response of any FI older 911) I guess my biggest issue is sourcing parts that are proper for my car. Thanks to some help from Australian members of this forum, I've been able to come up with the part numbers for what I need but when I call parts retailers and give them the #s they just pause and give me some stupid answer like "we can send you this, it might work". Might work does not cut it, all the ***** wrong with my car is because of parts that might work. I've been thinking of calling some shops in germany with the help of my aunt who is fluent in german, but even then I don't want to have to wait 3-4 weeks for parts to get to my door step and god forbid 1 of them is broken or is the wrong piece, then I'm outta money + have something nobody needs or even wants. I'm open to suggestions, however wild or crazy, I just want my car to sing all the way to redline on warm and cold starts.

Hmm, I must've been blind to miss it, because I do remember it jumping around as early as a few days ago. Seems like the price is just a little bit past my budget so I'll have to save up a little more, this is very interesting.
nostatic, you devil you, I told ya'll I was poor, why are ya suggesting the biggest, baddest carb on the market? ![]()

So many upgrades, so little money. I would love to go to the EFI setup, but my CIS hasn't driven me insane yet so I keep spending my money on other things. It looks extremely clean, and I really like the flexibility of EFI. Carbs are bad enough when you only have one, I have no desire to deal with the PMO's. I understand the attraction, mind you, but I already know I couldn't deal with them. When I'm rich and can afford to keep a private mechanic for my fleet of cars, then I'll buy a car with carbs.
![]() nostatic, I have this image of a frog croaking "PMMMOO" somewhere offstage now, kinda like those Budweiser commercials from a (loooong) while back. Heh. Dan ![]()

All you need to make the car run is a WUR and cold start injector.
I wouldn't be so quick to condem the CIS until the exact culprit of your troubles is found. There are trouble shooting guides and diagnostic methods in the archives.
