Ebay scam

Last night I was looking around Ebay as I always do. For sale 1986 911 cab price was around $6,500 no reserve, so I am hmm whats going on here? You had to be a pre approved bidder...I email the person and wait to get approved, of course the auction is gone today and I get this email
"Hi there and sorry for the delay,
My name is Michael Gannon and i am glad you are interested in my car.
The car will be shipped from Italy and i will cover the shipping costs and insurance,as i already told you in the auction. You will not have to pay additional taxes, just the price for it.I just want to tell you from the beginig that everything regarding this car is legit.
The buy it now price is $ 8,500 (including shipping and handling).
Shipping:
-I will ship the unit with Lufthansa Air Cargo, and you will receive it in 5 days. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year,so there will be no probleme to use it even in weekends. those are just a few things that you are benefit of:
No weight or size restrictions (subject to aircraft)
Booking guarantee
Clear transit time statement
Tracking services
I guess it is better for bouth to use it ,because is not like others services (FedEx ,UPS), regarding the size and weight of the unit.
Some words about the car :
Perfect condition, still under warranty (extended at 2 years). No damage,no scratches or dents, no hidden defects, and it is as advertised. The car is an US model with US specs,it passed the test emissions and comes with all the documents you need to register the car .I am the original owner of the car and the title is clear.
Also,if you send me your full name and address,so i can make a reservation for shipping, and in this case I will take you as a serious and possible buyer( this way I will loose all the nonpaying bidders that I occur everyday) and arrange a further deal.
Let me know
Thanks
Michael "

BTW he sent 2 emails like this to my 2 differnet emails i have Yup $8,500 for a 86 cab sure sure sure

Its gets even better

HI
I am glad you replied.
The car will be shipped from Italy but don't worry about the shipping because is free.
I want to assure you that i am a serious person and I just want to conclude the deal in the best way for both of us!Here you have the payment terms!
PAYMENT:
The payment must be done using a secure methode, which protect bouth of us.
The inspection period for it is 15 days, you can test it ,and if you are not satisfy you can returned and you don't have to pay anything.I am not asking the money prior to the shipping. However, i need a 3000$ downpayment, as a deposit, so i can make the arrangements for shipping. This will be done through Western Union, the fastest ways to send money worldwide .As soon as i have the deposit confirmation i will proceed with the shipping the same day. That's the main ideea about this, it is very fast and we can have everything done in few days. To arrange the transfer, you must go in person to a Western Union office and send the money from your name and address to my name and adrress.
Here are my details that you need for money transfer:
First name: Michael
Last name: Gannon
Address: Via Della Pisana 419
Zip code: 00198
City:Rome
Country: ITALY
As i told you before, as soon as this deposit confirms, i will send the car. As soon as you'll receive and inspect it, you must send the rest of the money. If in 15 days, you'll not be happy with the car, you can return it and have your money back. I will cover the potential return expenses, since i am sure this won't be the case!
Let me know if that's ok with you, so i can start the shipping arrangements!
Waiting to hear from you as soon as possible!

western union is the best

Typical wire fraud scam scumbag. It is probably best to just walk away from this sort of thing.
However, if you want to have a little fun:
Tell him to overnight you a copy of the title or registration, and that you will wire funds as soon as you get it. If he manages to come up with one (fake), tell him you didn't recieve it and to overnight another copy. That way, he is out $20-$50 for the express mail fees, and you can email him back saying "how does it feel, A-hole?"

Very clever.

This sale reminds me of the BBS member who saw his own car for sale on eBay. The pictures, supposedly from Japan, were of his car in his driveway! Unbelievable how many scams are run on eBay.

BTW, WTF kind of warranty does he have if an 86 Cab is still under it? Sadly, my car's PO didn't opt for the "18 yr extended warranty" option on my car.

If those are pics of the car in Italy, I like the U.S. school zone pedestrian sign in the background. Did he live here in the U.S. first?

Nice plug for Western Union. :P

Judging from the contents of the luggage area, you are dealing with an unscrupulous Tennis Pro.

Italy sure looks flat and humid like the midwest.

There was an article in the paper a few days ago:
-$200million in reported online fraud last year
-half the 166,000 complaints were about online auctions(130%increase from 2001)
-EBAY(coughBS) estimates that of its 20million items for sale, only 2,000 are fraudulant. This doesn't include Western Union scams
-EBAY doesn't allow it's members to warn bidders by e-mail of a potential scam or post on EBAY discussion groups. Penalty is suspension or more of account.

It seems to me EBAY is covering up it's flaws and punishing those who do its work for them. I've never given them my personal data and probably never will.

How about this reply to his email:

"As a department of Justice officer, I've had the opportunity to travel world wide and make many friends. In Italy, I have a very good friend/colleague in Rome that agreed to look over the car for me and he is elated that I've decided to purchase a 911.

Please advise on a convenient time for this to happen.

I'd ask where the car was, first. If you say Rome, he might say well the car is in Palermo or somewhere else a considerable distance away. Find where the car is supposed to be, pick the biggest city around there, and go with that.

Shipping a vehicle via Air is probably more expensive than what he's asking for the car.

Well, I got the scam letter yesterday, and my car is on Pelican, not eBay.

The deal was that I was to be sent a check for $18K (for a car selling for $11.75K). Obviously, they'd want a refund of the overage, all of which they hoped would transpire before my bank figured out the check was bogus. Came from an ISP called "outgun.com". Sender was a "Blint Johnson".

People fall for this stuff!

of course Efee is covering its ass , how else would the thieves that run Efee get funds? They claim its the safest place to place a acution, what a laugh. And Payee and Efee go hand in hand
