More lightweight mods
I have been tinkering while waiting for my car to come back with a new engine.
I have a rear bumper that I have already lightened somewhat, but I wanted to do more. So I had the holes for the bumper pads welded shut. But I need lighting for the license plate... So I used these Hella vintage lights, that were used to light the race numbers in endurance racing. I have a picture of the Le Mans winning 917 of Marko/Van Lennep with that light on it. Some measuring, some drilling, some electrics and Tadaaa: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Looks great!, They look like the BMW 2002 lights which many use over here.
Instead of welding up holes why not make a bunch of bigger ones? like these ![]() ![]()

very nice, great look. Where can you get these? or are they unobtainable to the masses?

Shaun,
They are Hela lights, but are no longer in their catalog, superceded by a black monstruous item. They turn up from time to time on Ebay. Their value is not much, until everyone knows they were used on racing cars... Here on a 904 restored by Gunnar: ![]() Randy, I like the fact that the bumper will not crack immediately if I touch something, or if someones brakes a tad too late. |
