The ultimate sc mod, it's long
This story needs to be told. Again.
One of the best modifications I’ve made to my sc has also been one of the least expensive; getting full throttle. I have read threads on this board about 911s that didn’t get full throttle when you floor the gas pedal but this didn’t make any sense to me. Why would Porsche adjust the car that way, leaving extra performance on the table like that? Why would subsequent Porsche mechanics servicing the cars not notice and correct this? I guess I didn’t really believe it. I thought maybe people were adjusting something a previous owner had done incorrectly for some reason. Well, I looked at my car and sure enough, I was only getting 3/4 travel out of the pedal. Now maybe I’m not a smart guy but no matter how I adjusted the linkage I could only raise idle speed, not linkage travel, so I decided to take the neanderthal’s way out. I purchased a new accelerator push rod ( from pelican B-423-227-00, for a 79sc ) that’s the rod that attaches directly to the back of the gas pedal. Its adjustable too so you can play with it for a while before opening your wallet. I dropped my new push rod off at a local machine shop that works with an independent Porsche repair shop I use. They told me it was highly unlikely that I wasn’t getting full throttle because Porsche wouldn’t adjust the car that way but they agreed to add .6 inches to the length of the rod to humor me and they charged me $40 and told me to come back in a week. So what happened when I installed my $50 push rod? In the past I’ve added a lightened flywheel, larger throttle body, sport muffler, Fabspeed pre-muffler as well as removed over 150 pounds of air conditioning/alarm systems/radar detector/you name it from the car and none of this made as noticeable an improvement in performance as this slightly lengthened push rod. So next week I’ll be marketing the new “Super Shove Extra Pushy Sport Push Rod” for $384. Any takers? |

.6 inches of additional weight added to your SC.
Technically, this will slow you down. ![]()

Usually where you need to adjust the linkage to shorten the slack and get full throttle is at the adjustable linkage under the car on the left side of the tranny. You pop the link out of the ball socket, adjust it to take out the excess slack, and pop it back on.
