SC rev limit rotor

Fellas,
I tried searching and after reading about 50 different threads with the words, SC, rev, limit and rotor I still haven't been able to locate the part number for an SC rev limiting rotor. About a month ago I had quite the scare when my throttle stuck open. Anyway, I was able to piece together that our host does not carry these (I suspect Euro part), and Vertex does, although I cannot find it on their site (way less user friendly than PP). Anyway, does anybody have a lead on these? Looking for one between 6000-7000 rpm...

You have to call Veterx, and they are the only ones that I could find that have it. I didn't have the part number, but told them the year of my car and what I wanted and they knew exactly what I was after. For my car, I got the 6800 rpm one, and it works very nicely. I'll look for a part number on it in a little while if you can wait.

Sorry, I was not able to get a part number. Actually I wasn't able to get the damn rotor off of my dizzy, and didn't want to break the rotor doing so. Did you have any luck finding the part? There is some info in this recent thread, where I posted pictures of my rev-limiting rotor while I was trying to get it off.

Thanks for the try...I'll vertex and order one...

Erakad 04-06-2004 06:10 PM

Still have the box from when I replaced mine...believe it's a 6800 RPM model. Part # is 930.602.901.02. Not sure of the etiquette if our host doesn't carry the part, but I got in touch with a Porsche dealer in Charlotte that had a connection.

I do think it would be cool though if Wayne would carry some of the Euro parts...I see enough Euros in the posts that a few of the common parts would really help us out.

Wayne lists that number as a special order part..are you sure he can't get it?

That's interesting. I called Pelican before I called Vertex to order mine. The person I talked to had no idea what I was talking about and said he couldn't get it. Then again I didn't have the part number either. Next time, I will give Pelican a try if they can get it. ($21 at Vertex.)

I got one from TRE. Its a 930 part I think.

I'm at home right now so I can't verify with the database, but I'm pretty sure the 930 part cuts out at 6500 instead of the desired 6800 that the Euro rotors do. These are usually available.

As for the Euro rotors, the last time I checked, there was only one of them available in the United States through Porsche. However, we can probably special order them from Germany, but that would (A) take a while and (B) perhaps not be very cost effective. Is there really a profound interest in these? I will try to find out as many details as I can.

Lots of mid-year cars with SC US 3.0 engines and no rev limiter. Might be a market. Any that go higher than 6800?

Early_S_Man 04-07-2004 07:01 AM

--.02 is the Turbo rotor ...

930.602.901.01 is the ROW SC rotor, 7000 rpm per the spec book!

fintstone 04-07-2004 08:00 AM

Thanks Warren!

Jadams1 04-07-2004 08:59 AM

The rotor that was on my car was a Bosch p/n 1234 382 240 set @ 6800 rpms. Anyone have a cross reference between Bosch and Porsche part numbers?

Mike Kast 04-07-2004 09:05 AM

What does it take to install the rev limiter? Is it just a matter of swapping out the rotor?

fintstone 04-07-2004 12:33 PM

Eugene
Warren shows the .02 as the tubo rotor, your catalog shows the .01--could you check the numbers?
Didn't the early RS have a much higher redline? What about those rotors?

JP911 04-07-2004 12:45 PM

Mike-
Yes, it's just a matter of swapping rotors. The rev-limiting rotor is a bit larger and (obviously) has more small parts.

SpeedracerIndy 04-07-2004 12:52 PM

For non-turbos (not sure about the turbos), the distributor changed size in '78 I think. I'm sure someone will correct me with all the specific sizes, years, dates..... I purchased a rev limiting rotor locally for a '76S and it was too small for my SC. The car still ran, but not very well because the spark had to jump a few extra mm's. The one pictured in the Pelican catalogue that Warren listed looks like the one I bought for a 76S. I'm probably wrong about something there, but worth mentioning.

Here is mine for reference:

.01 is the 930 rotor up until 1985.

.02 is the ROW SC rotor that you guys are looking for and is rather scarce in America. I'm still researching its availability.

Rev-limiting rotors for early 911s (although readily available in the States) will not fit SC or 930 distributors.

It fits under a normal cap? Why is this euro? What was on the American cars?

Early_S_Man 04-07-2004 01:47 PM

Here is the '72 - '77 rev-limiting rotor ... smaller OD!
