Power Window Diagnosis

I am starting to experience some problems with my passegner side power window. It goes down very slow and up even slower (kind of sounds like a personal problem). Is this a symptom of the window motor going or is this a switch problem? Is the motor tough to change out? I did some searches and was unable to find anything real useful. Thanks!

I have the same problem and would be interested in any advice prior to opening up the door.

Thanks in advance!

could be the window seals - i have the same issue. does the window move quicker when wet?

try some talcum powder on the seals.

the window frame felt, window sw and connectors are routine issues.

also the frame alignment and motor is next.

The window moves the same speed wet or dry. How would you cure a window felt problem? Is this in the track inside the door or up into the frame itself?. I am guessing from the responses it may be necessary to remove the door to even look for some of these issues?

No..

before changing the felt .. make sure it's causing a binding.
maybe some spray lube/WD-40 to confirm. then maybe a direct wire to the motor with engine operating and 14+ volts. then maybe loosening the in/out alignment bolts and let the motor operate with the frame loose and see what happens. All this assumes the routine regulator maintence is ok.

I'm not the last on this.. I've read some interesting info on this system.

Is it slow from both the driver side switch for the passenger window, and the passenger side switch for the passenger window?

The power takes a different route for the up / down modes so a difference in speed may mean that the switch contacts are going bad in both positions but one position is more spent than the other.

Try a replacement switch or if you are creative the switches come apart (with the power off ) remove it and take it apart - it will pop apart like a gag can of snakes as it is spring loaded - you will find copper leaf spring contacts and little round copper contact pads - clean both sides with a good #2 pencil eraser - erase the carbon if it is black - if it is corroded use emory paper - put back together and test.

I had to do this on a road trip and the window stuck down in rain - got brownie points with my girlfriend for the McGivor impersonation...
