Setting brass rivets for vent corner seal
I just purchased the Targa vent window cap/corner seals for my car. I drilled out the old rivets that held them in but can't for the life of me figure out how to crimp the new rivets in place. Anybody done this before?
Tom

I just did this this weekend and no they don't fit right do they? I ended up reversing the metal bracket to the outside of the post and pushing the rivets thru the outside and holding them in with the window felt. Certainly not ideal but it keeps the frame together. I sure hope someone has a better solution for you. It seems that the rivets should have something to snap into.

I clamped a punch in a vise. Used this punch to support the rivet (somebody else holding the frame) and used a hammer and another punch to flatten the rivet from the other side. The copper is very soft and easy to form

Apparently the rivets dont just pop in, they need to be spread out?

When I replaced those triangular 'squeegies' ... I used copper Pop-Rivets with an extended-nose tip on the tool.

Warren,
I thought of that but the pop rivet still sticks out some on one side. Did you grind this down? Tom

No, it didn't interfere with the seal ... so I left it as installed.
