964 Chain Tensioner Failure?

Have any of you heard of 964 chain tensioners failing? It seems that one of mine failed, which was causing an awful rattle.

Yours is the first 964 that i've heard of. There have been several reports of Carrera failures.

Any damage? Did the cams jump time?

What does it sound like when the tensioner failed? Something that you would not miss, or does it sound like the valves are getting noisier?

Ingo,

I put those chain tensioner guards in the mail. Stick them on... they will give you peace of mind.

Thanks, Doug,

They'll go onto the 2.0S for the 914 track car. Thom is talking about his 946 3.6 engine. I have that same puppy in my brown Targa. If those tensioners (which are completely different) fail I would really hate life. I just rebuild that engine from the ground up and don't even want to imagine what I would do if it grenades. Gruesome pictures of an accelerant, flames, crushed metal, melted Fuchs etc flash through my mind......
