License revocation due to excessive speed

I've had my p-car for about a month now and occasionally I've pushed it to see what it can do. A week ago I was driving along a smooth winding road at 100mph and doing just fine. I passed a speed limit sign that said "35".

Then two days ago I opened her up on a lonely section of highway north of Denver. Speed limit is 70mph, I got her up to 140 and the needle was still going north...er...south at that point on the dial My exit approached sooner than I wanted to so I ended the speed run after a few seconds.

Question: What would have happened if I had been laser'd at 140 in a 70? Permanent license revocation or just a suspension with a nasty fine? I've researched speeding penalties in Colorado but the top one I can find pertains to speeds from 20-24mph over the posted limit. There doesn't seem to be one for "25 or more".

So, whaddya think would happen?

In Illinois, a 30+ is a visit to the jail house (so my Sheriff Deputy buddy tells me). Of course there are variables..like if the cop is having a good day or is a car buff.

Best to be careful and give the cop a break....

It varies by state, but I would imagine that you would probably be taken away in handcuffs and your car impounded if you were caught doing 140 mph. Anyone who says they haven't dabbled in the 100+ zone on a public road is probably either lying or has a broken speedometer, but it really is a very bad idea and a good way to get yourself or others dead in a hurry.

Depending on state I wouldn't be surprised to see arrest and possible (permanent?) impounding of car. They could probably think of alot of things to write you up for. Better off doing this sort of thing on a track.

Why would you even want to find out? Take it to a track or some dry desert lake. I don't know about Colorado but in California it would be Impoundment of the vehicle. You'd probably say bye bye to your license too.

If the reckless driving offense involved motor vehicle operation at a speed 100 MPH, the vehicle owned and driven by the offender may be impounded for a 1st offense not more than 6 months and for a 2nd offense not more than 12 months. Veh. Code §§14602

I would think most of us have gone way too fast on the open road at one time or another, but at this stage of my life I would really hate to try to explain why I was going 140 mph to a cop and then a judge. I have no doght that your ride would end in handcuffs. I also know that I love driving my cars to much to loose that privlige. I will also remind myself of this the the next time the road is clear. Take it to a track, really it is not worth the risk. It just so happens that the next timeyouthink the road is clear is when a trooper pops out of nowhere (or a helicopter) or even worst, an INNOCENT pedestrian or other driver.

Could you really justify a few seconds of speed for that risk?

So take it to the track, and only risk your own life, not others.

So how am I supposed to bed in my Pagids? I've been using 100+ speeds to do that. I usually do it school zones.

Just kidding. About the school zone part.

Georgia = Jail + possible loss of pcar for 30 days.

Yea - I did not think they could do that either... Gotta love those small towns..

I lost my mom's 930 for a month in Newnan Ga when I was 18 years old

No I was not supposed to be driving it but they were out of town and my 912 was down.

I was heading tword Atlanta going way too fast - one cop clocked me from an overpass and they set up a roadblock up ahead on HW85

I don't do this on the highway anymore - find a racetrack - don't endanger others

I do know this: 132MPH gets me (er- someone...) into jail and a HUGE fine, AND a year of lost license, in New Mexico-

Isn't this kind of like the "What would it be like to go 150" thread?

What ever happened to it?

I believe that, in Washington State, double the posted speed limit is automatic Reckless Driving. That gets you a shiny set of bracelets and free Bed and Breakfast for openers, then fun stuff like impoundment, license revocation, difficult discussions with your insurance agent, etc.

And, as some folks have reminded us here, it could be much worse than that.

When 5 cop cars show up in your driveway at once, you begin to realize that you're getting to old for this kind of stuff....

We do have one track at Pueblo where you might see 135 or more at the end of the front straight or perhaps on the banked turn of PPIR you can reach 120. You really do not want to risk the loss of your Pcar for this type of "pleasure" on the open roads of Colorado. The Colorado Highway Patrol are not very sympathetic and do not ask me how I know. The Rocky Mt. PCA track season is starting up, perhaps you need to check us out. Top speed is not all a 911 is about as you well know. HTH.

i think some brainy nerdy civil engineer type did some kinda math wizardry to come up with the speed limit. whether is it sight stopping distances, residences in the area, vertical or horizontal curves, whatever. i love speed, but ya gotta be careful. hell, you said you only had the car a month? there is alot of weight behind you on these cars and in an emergency situation, i bet this car will do thing differently. like slingshot your.....nevermind..... have fun, be careful,.........stay out of jail. you are too pretty for jail.

That happened a couple days ago to a local biker. The WSP saw him going 130mph from a plane, they chased him for an hour, & backed off. Then a news copter followed him home. DUMBASS
