I just installed a new door stay and reinforcement kit and now my door offers quite a bit of resistence about two to three inches before closing. I tried to adjust the plates and stay but the problem does not go away. Any advice?

The replacement door stay has a different style 'arm' than the original. You'll notice that the arm has a fatter or thicker portion as it slides through the stay. There is a bit of resistance as you've noticed. Grind down the bulge on the upper and lower part of arm so it has more of the same profile as the rest of the arm. You can still do this if you've already installed it but it is certainly easier with it out.
Re-grease when finished.

Or trim the rubber (?) parts of the stay, so they don't press so hard on the arm. Either way, I think it is important to do, otherwise you are actually increasing the stress on the door.

How did you guys remove the pin at the other end? I can't seem to remove it with a hammer and punch. Do you drill it out and replace it? I can' t believe that little sh$t is causing me this much work.

yes, that would have to be B. Make sure the clip has been removed (see my pix) and it should just tap out. If you can hit it wit a hammer (no punch) you can probably get a bit more force. Don't have the door all the way open so the door stay does not put pressure on the pin. Open the door all the way and then let it come back a bit before you try tapping the pin.
Sometimes they are hard to get started. I use a big pair of diagonal cutters (wire cutters) and place them so the cutting edges are on either side of the head and the squeeze them, then push down on the handles for leverage. Once it moves a fraction, it should easily tap out.

Thats a good idea about using the cutters to hold it. I don't have a clip its just that damn pin. I have to pay attention that the door isn't all the way open like you said. Thanks, DT

Are these reinforcement kits good as a preventative measure, or only after the problem exists?

Preventative. AFAIK, all the older 911s have weak door jambs.
