SCWDP Round-up 2004

The 3rd Annual SCWDP Rainforest Round-Up will be held on August 7-8, 2004. All Porsche enthusiasts are warmly invited.

This year, the event moves to Canada, the host venue being the lovely alpine resort of Sun Peaks, just north of Kamloops, BC. As usual, a great weekend of driving and partying is planned.

Special accommodation rates at the Delta Sun Peaks Resort Hotel are available now. Visit the official Round-Up website for full information: http://members.shaw.ca/zielke/roundup.html

The Round-Up gets bigger and better every year, so mark your calendars....and start your engines!

Nice logo Gary. Do I need a new chin spoiler to participate?

Thanks Jamie. As I am currently Porsche-less (until my d*** house sells) this is how I can participate.

Leland Pate 04-13-2004 11:45 AM

I am going to try and make it.
Getting leave around here is about as easy as pulling teeth.
Great design, Gary!

Danskman 04-13-2004 02:26 PM

How long of a drive would that be from Sacramento, CA?

Bill Douglas 04-13-2004 02:28 PM

On behalf of the New Zealand chapter of the SCWDP, I regretfully pass on the apologies of Bill Douglas, cause he ain't gonna be there but woulda loved to, 'cause last year looked REALLY good.

About 17 hours to the start point. Another 5-6 to the end point.

Last year we had guys driving from as far away as LA (Maxnine911) and Alberta (Tim Polzin and his son Ted). Come to think of it, I still own Max a long-distance award...

Tyson was supposed to drive up last year as well but this thing called "work" got in the way...;)

Doug Zielke 04-13-2004 04:13 PM

On this thread we have Kevin from the....UK
He would have to be the Long Distance winner, no?
:)

Tim Polzin 04-13-2004 06:38 PM

I keep blowing the long distance award. Guess I've got to move farther away.

Count me in.

Tim

Argh!!! WTF is it with this weekend. Did everybody get together and plan against me or what? I already have three weddings to pick from this weekend, but now I'm going to miss the Big Sooper-Sekrit SCWDP meeting!

Maybe this could be a sequel to that movie 'Three weddings and a funeral'. Call it 'Three weddings and a World Domination Plot'. Hugh grant as me? Yeah, sure...

Dan :)

911Rob 04-14-2004 12:52 AM

I think I can make the 45 minute drive?
Hee hee
See you all there, looking forward to it, that's for sure!

Doug Zielke 04-14-2004 07:45 AM

Dan (and other No-So-Cals)....
It's always fun to see you guys make the trip. Last year we had Max from LA. Looking forward to seeing him, and more CA drivers.

Bill Douglas 04-14-2004 02:42 PM

As I can't make it, here's my request... More of those fabulous pics of SCs blasting their way around the twisties with a lot of landscape happening.

stealthn 04-14-2004 08:53 PM

Oh I hope I can make it...it's only 9 hours away from me. We just had a weekend of 25c weather here, then today we had 11cm of snow, global warming my ass.

I hope to be able to get a 4 day weekend to spend with you guys I only type to, and oggle over those wonder flying machines (SC's)

AntiCHP 04-14-2004 09:47 PM

Hmm... this sounds really cool!

Am I just too excited about having my car back to think I could pull off towing for 20 hours (near Sacramento, too, but towing is a bit slower, eh?) to get to the starting point, where I would then hope to "hide" behind two other Super Carreras (Weissach Editions would be nice) and hope to not get arrested in between the start and end points for driving a fully race prep'd car with no head lights turn signals, et. al.?

I just got back from Thunderhill Monday eve and I'm so pleased to have it corner-balanced and lightened to 2230# with 3/8ths fuel!

I had been waiting since what seemed like forever (January) and didn't get the car back until Friday.

I've been calling it my WeissachRS, though I'm sure it does Danskman & Schrup dishonor it's current state of factory paint, unpainted fiberglass bumpers, and a yellow tail (IROC hamachi?)... but it will be returned to a reasonably honorable state within the next six weeks.

Anyway, I was very excited to pass a few Z06s and think it is high time for World Domination!

Would even trying this make it a bust for the group, or do you think I could pull it off?

Anyone know how harsh the Mounties come down on an ugly American for driving a vehicle that is not registered for use on a highway -anywhere?

If there was trouble, you fellers think you could bust me out of 'the joint' (say, like Hell's Angels would for one of their members)?

Of course, I'd have to go back to the start point and get the tow vehicle, too...

Maybe I should the Chianti away...:D

Jamie79SC 04-15-2004 07:53 AM

Party on Mike!

Sounds good to me.

Doug Zielke 04-15-2004 08:15 AM

Mike,
I would suggest you save the Chianti for the ledgendary Round-Up apres-drive party :)

And this year's should be a whopper....we have been promised an *entire* bar to ourselves c/w outdoor patio.
I'll be making a "pre-run" next month to check it out.

BTW...The Delta tells me the rooms are booking up fast. No surprise; they usually do. So, if you're planning to come, visit the Round-Up website for booking info asap.

AntiCHP 04-15-2004 09:11 AM

Last year at around the same time I took my 1500# Sprite along the CA coast to San Diego and back... I must have put 1200 miles on the little car with no side windows, exterior door handles, or a heater. It was a blast!

But THIS, now this is no driving fling, THIS is an Event!

At this point appears to be a bit of a logistical/planning challenge... but isn't that half the "fun".

Believe it or not, I'm making a committment to be there! Got my room reserved and everything! In fact, after talking to the lady at the reservation desk, now I'm really fired up to be there. It sound like a beautiful part of the world.

Getting the car, trailer, tow vehicle and maps ready shouldn't be that big a deal, but explaining to my wife & girls where I'm going and for what... well, that's gonna be a tad more difficult.

You know, I don't think this Chianti is gonna make it until August, so I might as well just finish it with these eggs...

Looking forward to meeting you all!

Doug Zielke 04-15-2004 09:52 AM

Wow! You're a keener, Mike.
We'll be looking forward to meeting you and showing you a good time.

The Round-Up organizers are presently working on the route.
Maps and driving instructions will be ready on the website around July 1st.

Jamie79SC 04-15-2004 11:06 AM

Doug,

Are you sure you want to give the CMP access to such sensitive information?

Drago 04-15-2004 11:42 AM

Anybody having trouble getting through to make a reservation? I've been calling them all morning and getting nothing but an answering machine.

Also, if you stay on the line they punch you through to their gobal booking agent. They told me that the PCA group booking was "tentative" and that no rooms have been booked!

Doug, what is going on here?

Schrup 04-15-2004 01:45 PM

Mike, if the logistics prove to be too much of a challenge, you can share driving duties with me!!! Just buy a plane ticket & I'll pick you up. I don't have a passenger planned as of yet. We're moving to a big ass house next week, so you could fly in whenever. Might be tough to get the Weissach/RS across the border.

Doug Zielke 04-15-2004 01:59 PM

Marc,
Sorry, but I know of several people who have made their reservations, without any problems. Our block of rooms is definitely not "tentative".
I'll be talking to the hotel manager on Monday, and will ask her if there have been any booking problems.

AntiCHP 04-15-2004 03:59 PM

Hey, thanks Pablo, I certainly appreciate that! I may end up taking you up on that offer. In the mean time, I have found a buddy that I can pick up in Beaverton, OR, and who will trail behind towing the empty trailer to meet up at the destination point and/or bail me out of trouble. (This collegue-buddy finds the idea of my car blending in laughable but is game for the adventure.)

We are both in agreement that -to the best of our recollection- the area is fairly sparcely populated so we will hope for the best.

Yeah, that is one thing I will have to investigate. I would imagine I may have an even more difficult time getting back into the states depending on the documentation I can come up with to show ownership. I know I saw the title somewhere about 12 years ago...

So anyone know where one would inquire about trailering a vehicle across the border for a car event? It would certainly suck to roll up to the border only to find out "your papers are not in order".

finadict 04-15-2004 06:10 PM

OK Doug, if we still have the turb, sus and I'll will see you there...

Doug Zielke 04-15-2004 07:10 PM

Check your e-mail, Pat!

Leland Pate 04-15-2004 09:54 PM

Crap!
I'm only like 680 miles away from Kamloops.

Tomorrow, I put in for leave. :D

Whoo hoo!
Now, I just have to find another car trailer!
Damn, I wish I hadn't sold my last one.

alf 04-15-2004 10:37 PM

I think he did.

HawgRyder 04-16-2004 06:59 PM

My work is set out for me....stop all the oil leaks
and get the car ready for the run. So far so good
as you can see in the pic.

Tyson Schmidt 04-16-2004 08:47 PM

You know, if i fly up, I won't have to miss work to make it.

Anyone willing to take a passenger?

Schrup 04-16-2004 09:17 PM

I'm sure somebody can accommodate you Tyson. I have an open seat, but I think Mike may be filling it if he abandons his outlaw idea. Hope you can make it.

island911 04-16-2004 11:01 PM

Yeah Tyson . . .I'll even let you get behind the wheel. . . .and make vvvrrrooooomm noises in the parking lot.

:D
Seriously, I think my usual co-driver, Eric Coffie, will be bringing his own ride this time.

Just buy the plane ticket . .it will all work out.
